College Basketball #SnackMadness Prep

College Basketball Viewing Party Prep With Walgreens' Balance Rewards #SnackMadness

For those who read my blog regularly you know that we’re huge University of Kentucky college sports fans.  So this time of year – the college basketball season and the following Tournament – is especially fun for us.  The Cats aren’t exactly lighting up the boards this year (which is not usual for us – the University of Kentucky basketball team is the winningest team in college basketball history) so I’m not even sure that we’ll see them in the tournament.  Of course our fingers are still crossed that they will, but even if they don’t make it, we’ll still be watching the games.

When you have teenagers life can be a little unpredictable.  You never know when they’re going to call and say “Oh, by the way, I’m bringing five friends over to watch the games”.  And if you have teenagers – especially teen boys – you know that filling the pit they call a stomach isn’t easy.  Carrot sticks and pretzels aren’t going to go very far.  Fortunately we have a Walgreens just down the road – literally like a mile – that’s easy to pop into and grab last minute party supplies. Iced Coffee Recipe: Mocha Parfait Shots

Iced Coffee Recipe: Mocha Parfait Shots

Last year I fell in love with the new International Delight Mocha Iced Coffee and shared with you a couple of coffeehouse recipes that you could make at home.  Almost nine months later and I’m still drinking my DIY iced coffees at home.  Not only does it help me save a few dollars but it’s much more convenient.  Instead of driving to a coffee shop every time I get the hankering for a cold coffee beverage I just have to reach into the fridge.

As much as I have been enjoying my ID Mocha Iced Coffee I had decided that I needed to cut back just a bit.  Summer is just around the corner and that means tank tops and swimsuits so a girl needs to watch her waistline just a bit.  I was exceedingly happy, then, when on a recent trip to the store I found that International Delight had read my mind.  There, on the shelf, was a Light version of my favorite Mocha Iced Coffee!

Creating a #MomCave With La-Z-Boy

#MomCave Inspiration From La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries

We’ve been planning out some projects for this house this year.  Almost every room needs something: new furniture, paint, accessories, a new layout.  This has given me a reason to spend a lot of time online browsing furniture stores to get inspiration and give us some focus for when we actually go shopping.

I need #MomCave inspiration from La-Z-Boy!

Can you read the cover of the book? It’s a book about “If…” I decided to leave it on the shelf because it fit my mindset of what this room could be, “if only…”

One of the rooms that needs to be redone is the office.  It’s kind of a sad-looking room to be honest.  If you’re like me, when you start home makeovers you probably choose rooms that other people can, you know, see.  No one goes into the office except us so it’s been much lower on the list to get attention.  There’s a huge desk that hubby and I share, and a treadmill.  And blinds.  Oh, and Bubbles’ diapers and wipes (out of site yet still quick to grab when needed).  Exciting, huh? Meet A Fellow Social Fabric Blogger

Social Fabric blogger Tiffany - Home Grown Families

I’ve had the pleasure of being part of the Social Fabric community for a few months now and I am so thankful to be part of such an amazing group of bloggers.  They are supportive, fun, funny, creative and vocal.  Even though I’ve only met a couple of them (so far!) in person I can tell they would easily be a group of people I’d like to sit down with and share a few appetizers and laughs.

One member of the community is Tiffany Ellman (I love that last name; every time I glance at it I see Elfman and it makes me think of Christmas!) who is one of the bloggers behind Home Grown Families.  Tiffany is the single mom to three sweet (and active, from what I’ve seen!) girls.  I have been following Tiffany on Instagram for a few months now and she always shares fun photos of the things she is up to with her family.  For example, they recently met the man who played the Scarecrow on Broadway back in the 50s!  I also follow her on Pinterest; she has some great boards.  If you need a good giggle check out her two humor boards. Create Pampering Gift Baskets With NIVEA

Give the gift of soft skin with NIVEA lotion

One of my favorite things to do this time of year is shop for our Angel Tree names.  We try to choose at least one or two each year, and we involve the whole family in the process.  This year we added Angie’s Angels to our shopping list for tree names.  Angie’s Angels make sure that folks living in long term care facilities – folks that often are overlooked, many without any family – receive a few gifts for the holidays.  This organization struck a chord with me as a few of my relatives in the past have been in this type of facility.  When I was little my mother would make sure we’d stop by and visit other residents while we were there.  Most of them never received any other visitors; it was nice to be able to give them a little company.

I heard the call for Angie’s Angels on the radio where they shared a standard list of requests that they put in every gift bag.  It included deodorant, sweatshirts, magazines, and lotion.  The winter weather brings dry skin for a lot of us, but often the elderly are more susceptible than many others.
