Happy Mother's Day from Monsters University

Remember what it was like leaving home to head off to college?  If you were like me, no matter how independent you thought you were, it wasn’t long before you missed your Mom!  I’m sure that even though Sully was dreaming of becoming a Scarer he, too, probably missed his Mom once he arrived at Monsters University (though being part of the OK fraternity gave him some support to get through those lonely moments).  Maybe he should have been like “Squishy” Squibbles and continue living at home with his doting mother, Ms. Squibbles.

Whatever their living situation, all the monsters want to show their appreciation for Moms everywhere.  They are sharing their sentiment through the image above.  Also be sure to watch the cute video below.  It’s all about the interactions between families.  Can anyone else relate to the “Smile!” request? Thank you to Disney for providing us with a great Doc McStuffins DVD.

If you have a toddler the words “time for your checkup” probably cause involuntary humming and perhaps head-bobbing.  In fact, just thinking about those words right now has the Doc McStuffins theme song running through my head.  Bubbles is taking a nap right now, otherwise if she heard me hum it out loud, she’d be begging to watch the new Disney Junior “Time For Your Check Up” DVD (available today!).  That would be fine by me, because I have to admit to being quite the Doc fan, myself.

Disney Junior's Doc McStuffins "Time For Your Check Up" DVD

The new “Doc McStuffins: Time For Your Check Up” DVD has five episodes (though each episode is made up of two shorter episodes, so it’s really like 10) and has a run time of 120 minutes.  The episodes include:

  • Gulpy, Gulpy Gators! / One Note Wonder
  • Tea Party Tantrum / Blast Off!
  • Arcade Escapade / Starry, Starry Night
  • Bronto Boo-Boos / Brontosaurus Breath
  • Doctoring the Doc / Hot Pursuit

The Arcade Escapade / Starry, Starry Night episode is one we’ve seen a few times on TV and it’s one of my personal favorites.  In Arcade Escapade Doc visits and arcade and finds a toy giraffe named Gaby stuck in one of those “claw” machines.  She never gets chosen because she has a torn leg, so Doc and her stuffed pals figure out a way to help her.  It’s a great lesson on teamwork.  And in Starry, Starry Night a little star-gazing planned, but no one is able to see anything through the telescope.  Apparently Aurora, the telescope, is having some issues with blurry vision. If your little aviators are anxiously awaiting the August 9th, 2013 release of Disney/Pixar’s Planes, you may be wondering how you’ll keep them occupied during the three month wait.  Well, never fear!  Disney has just released some awesome free activity sheets and coloring pages that you can print out for the kiddos.

Just click the images below to print and/or download the coloring pages and activity sheets.  Soon you’ll have high-flying masterpieces to stick to your refrigerator!  Bubbles spends at least one or two hours per day “coloring Mama pictures” so I’ve already printed out a few copies of each.  I’m sure we’ll have plenty to mail to Grammie and Great-Grammie, plus to deliver to Papaw and Grammy, Sissy, and Austin.  She loves to share her art!

Be sure to follow Planes on both Facebook and Twitter to stay on top of all the news this summer.

For those that read Views From the ‘Ville regularly, you know how much I love a theme.  All of the Avengers lend themselves well to a special night of fun so I thought it would be fun to share some inexpensive ideas to have an Iron Man 3 Family Fun Night.  If your family isn’t already chomping at the bit to hit the theater this weekend, these should help get your family pumped up.

  1. Set the mood by giving everyone their own ticket to family night.  You can print the one I created or make your own.Free Printable Iron Man 3 Family Fun Night Ticket
  2. Spend the day leading up to Family Night pretending to be Tony Stark.  Let the kids’ imaginations go wild and come up with their own inventions.  Tinker Toys, blocks, straws and clay, pretty much anything can be used as building materials.
  3. Print out some free cool Iron Man masks for the kiddos to wear.Free Printable Iron Man Mask for an Iron Man 3 Party
  4. Give everyone a glow necklace or bracelet so they can have their own version of an arc reactor power supply.
  5. Dinner can be a “Black Widow” pizza using black olives as spiders.
  6. And dessert might be Iron Man cupcakes (swirl red and yellow frosting over vanilla cupcakes) or even fresh strawberries (what Tony brought Pepper to apologize).
  7. For younger kiddos try a “pin the arc reactor on Iron Man’s chest” game.  Just print out a color copy of Iron Man or Tony Stark (you might want to take it to a store that has photo services so you can have it enlarged) and then print out enough arc reactors for each participant.
  8. Pick up a few plain dark red paper gift bags and fill them with candy, individual popcorn bags, juice boxes, etc. and seal them with a large, round yellow sticker.  They’ll be perfect for the family to…
  9. Settle in and watch Iron Man or Iron Man 2 (or both!) on DVD or Blu-Ray.
  10. End the night by watching the newest Iron Man 3 clip!

What other Iron Man 3 party ideas can you think of? Will you be seeing it this weekend?

I receive a lot of entertainment news – movie releases and clips, advanced TV programming notices, music drop dates, etc. – and it’s really more than I could conceivably post about without renaming my blog “Entertainment From the ‘Ville”.  As a Disney fan, I do generally try and share some of that news, and occasionally a children’s program update.

There’s a lot of it that may be of real interest to you all, though, so I’ve decided to try and write a weekly round up.  Check out all the upcoming movies below.

TollyTots' Fashion Dolls From Disney's "Oz the Great and Powerful"

As a Disney-loving family we enjoy pretty much anything related to the parks or the movies.  And when those items are produced by companies we truly enjoy it makes them that much more special.  So we were excited to recently receive one of the new Oz the Great and Powerful fashion dolls from TollyTots.

Bubbles is a bit young for the movie but that didn’t stop her from trying to confiscate Theodora the moment that she arrived.  She kept asking me to open the box but I still wasn’t sure if she would be her toy or if Theodora might look better on Mommy’s desk for a bit of a work distraction.  In the end, I think I’ll be picking up a China Doll for Bubbles and Theodora will, in fact, hang out in my office.

Doc McStuffins: Friendship is the Best Medicine

Disney Junior’s Doc McStuffins

From the very first time that we took Bubbles to see her pediatrician (at age 1 week), she cried.  She cried when the nurse came in to get her measurements, she cried when the doctor came in to see her, cried while waiting for shots, and cried during the shots.  Crying didn’t really let up much until we were in the car and she realized that we weren’t going back in.

I thought it would end by her 1 year checkup, but it didn’t.  Nor did it end at 15 months, 18 months, or 21 months.  Yep.  Lots of tears, every time.  Each time the flow would grow shorter, but they were always there.

It was around her 21 month appointment that we discovered Doc McStuffins on Disney Junior.  I don’t remember exactly how we found it; we may have just been a little slow to change the channel after one of her other shows.  But from the start she showed a lot of interest.  If you’re not familiar with the show it centers around “Doc” McStuffins, a 6-year-old that is able to speak with toys and stuffed animals.  Her mom is a doctor of people and Doc has become a doctor of toys.  Along with Hallie the hippo, Stuffy the dragon, Lambie the (you guessed it) lamb and Chilly the snowman, she runs a clinic to fix any toy boo-boos that may arise. Disney's Movie "Planes

Disney’s Planes Sure to Be a Family Favorite

As you know we’re a very Disney family.  So every time there is an announcement for a new Disney movie we get a bit excited.  Finding out that Disney was making Planes was more than just a bit exciting.  We knew that if Cars and Cars 2 were any indicator, that Planes would knock our socks off.

This one is especially exciting for the whole family, as Austin (A2) really wants to train to be a pilot after graduation.  Planes will be right up his alley!  And hubby suggested that this could be a great first theater movie for Bubbles.  She adores Mater and Lightning McQueen and we think she’ll love these characters, too.

Speaking of characters – the voice talent for this film is great.  The full cast and their voice stars are: Continue reading »

Iron Man 3 Opens May 3, 2013

Iron Man 3 Opens May 3rd

I can’t believe that Iron Man 3 opens in just over a month!  It’s one of the movies I’ve most been looking forward to all year (since it was announced last year, actually).  Actually, the whole family is pretty anxious to see it.  Bubbles will definitely be spending a couple of hours with Papaw and Grammy that night so everyone else can go.

If you can’t wait until the May 3rd opening you might be in luck.  If you head over to the Iron Man 3 Facebook page right now you’ll have the chance to win a trip to Los Angeles for the April 24th world premiere!  That would be one exciting trip.  But do hurry – the sweepstakes ends at midnight EST on Wednesday, March 27th.  There will be one winner per day.

Will you be seeing Iron Man 3 opening weekend?

Party Ideas to Celebrate Oz the Great and Powerful

Oz the Great and Powerful Party Ideas

I love a themed party, which you probably could tell from my Avengers family night and Minnie Mouse party ideas for Bubbles’ birthday party.  I have some fun ideas planned for some of this summer’s upcoming movies and one of them may just need to be an Oz the Great and Powerful party.  I am so anxious to see it after hearing all the great reviews.  Fortunately it opens next week so the wait is almost over.  We’ve actually been invited to a pre-screening early next week and I’m hoping that we’ll be able to attend.
