Need Some Backyard Tailgating Ideas?

I know I’ve mentioned a few times that we are big football fans around here; when you live in Kentucky, it’s almost a requirement.  We love it in all it’s forms: from high school, to college, to the pros.  Bubbles even attended her first game before she was born!

Blank Backyard Canvas Perfect for a Dream Tailgating Spot #SummerWithSears

Great space for Bubbles to, well, chase some bubbles! But needs a little work before it’s a Backyard Dream Tailgating spot!

Along with football, though, comes another fun activity that we enjoy – and that’s tailgating!  And just because you can’t actually get to every game it doesn’t mean you have to miss out on tailgating; you just home-gate, instead.  We have a good blank canvas (as you can see above) for backyard tailgating at our new place, but it needs a few things to jazz it up a bit first. TCBY Frozen Yogurt is now available in your grocer’s freezer!

School went back in session here this past week – can you believe it?  The freedom days of summer went by so quickly!  A2 was kind of ready to start back; I think we all remember how summer was exciting for the first few weeks school was out, but by the end, boredom set in somewhat.

To celebrate the end of summer I decided it would be nice to have a sweet treat the night before school officially started.  Both A1 and A2 are following fitness routines and eating “clean” right now, so I had to think a little bit about what we could have that wouldn’t be too over-the-top for either of them.  What I really wanted to make was the Chocolate Trifle that my Mom made many times when I was growing up; so very tasty, but not even close to the definition of the word “light”.  Her trifle consisted of layers of chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, whipped topping, crushed toffee bars, finished with chocolate sauce drizzled over the top.  Plus I knew if I made it we’d end up with a lot left over.

Then I started thinking about how to create individual portions and what other ingredients we might be able to use to lighten dessert up.  I recalled that the last time I was at Walmart TCBY Frozen Yogurt had moved in; froyo could definitely work!  With less fat and calories than traditional ice cream it was definitely a lighter option and with the number of flavors available it could be layered with a number of different ingredients.

Are you looking for summer kids’ clothes?

Summer started early here this year; we were feeling the heat way back in May.  Which means we’ve been wearing our flip flops, sundresses, shorts and tank tops for months now.  As an adult, you can just keep tossing things in the laundry and wear them no matter how long summer lasts, but when you’re a toddler that is growing like a weed you’re going to run out of clothes before you run out of heat.

That was the situation we’ve recently run into; Bubbles summer clothes were starting to get a little small.  If we only had a couple of weeks left before cooler fall temps, she probably could make it with what she has.  But since it’s not quite August yet and we’re likely to still see 90s and maybe even triple digits through September, we needed to round out her summer wardrobe with a few extra pieces.

I recently had heard of CookiesKids.com and after checking them out I was really impressed.  They have a great variety of name-brand clothing at really awesome prices.  But what exactly is Cookies Kids? Continue reading »

A couple of weeks ago I shared with you that my family was playing a lot of NCAA Football 12 to gear up for the release of #NCAAFootball13.  And now it’s here!  It released last Thursday and after work I headed over to pick a copy up.  If you follow me on Twitter, you may have caught my tweet with a picture of all the EA Sports NCAA Football 13 games that were on display.

After picking up our copy for the PS3 it was time for the rest of my shopping list.  In addition to a few regular grocery items, I needed a few things for dinner that night, plus lots of snacks for while we played.  You can view my Google+ Album to see my entire shopping trip. Continue reading »

Growing up in New England nautical- and ocean-themed home decor items were a fairly common site.  We lived in a more northern part of Maine, so we didn’t have as much right where I lived, but one of my aunts, her husband and family lived on a little island off the coast.  When we visited it the ocean surrounded us, lobsters were printed on serving dishes, and boats were around every corner.

Living in Kentucky… well, not so much.  I get excited when I see a Maine Lobster or Maryland Crab sign, and though it doesn’t go with any of our decor, I always look at the nautical prints and items a little wistfully.
