Summer is a great time of year – expect for one thing. There’s no football! From the moment the seasons end until the day training starts, my husband and A2 are lamenting the loss of games on TV. I don’t necessarily lament the break in the season (I do enjoy all the baseball games in the interim), but I do miss football, also. As I’ve mentioned probably a hundred times, we’re BIG University of Kentucky fans and love attending the games at Commonwealth Stadium.
So what is a football fan to do when there’s no football on TV? Play football video games, of course!

Here are just a few of our console games – notice all the football titles?
In addition to being football fans, we’re a family of gamers. Whether it’s an online game, PC game, console game – or even board games! – you can often find at least one of us mashing a few buttons. Right now we’ve been playing a lot of EA Sports NCAA Football 12 in order to get ready for the release of NCAA Football 13!

NCAA Football 12 for the PS3 has been getting a lot of play around here lately.
NCAA Football 12 is a lot of fun, but there are some new additions in NCAA Football 13 that we’re looking forward to trying. First of all, they’ve added the Heisman Challenge. You can play as one of 10 former Heisman Trophy winners (including Dough Flutie, Barry Sanders, and Herchel Walker) and use their legendary skills with your favorite college team and try to win the Trophy again. There’s also a new passing game, something called Reaction Time that slows the game down during key moments, and Dynamic Dynasty which puts you in the recruiting drivers seat with weekly updates to your recruiting grades. You also get live studio updates on Gameday Saturdays with enhanced commentary by Rece Davis!

UK versus Georgia – as you can see, UK is winning!

Tilting your head to the side helps with concentration. Really!

And UK is running up the score! Go Big Blue!
This weekend we had a bit of a family video game night. Game nights are always fun when the whole family plays together (or at least sits together and cheers for those who are playing!). We try to make them special with snacks, a special meal or favorite takeout, and lots of friendly competition. We ordered some pizza, added in some chips and salsa, and watched as UK and Georgia went head-to-head.
We’ll definitely be doing a big game night on the 10th when #NCAAfootball13 releases.
Oh, and you know what else is cool? The new You’re Covered program that will release on the same day. You’ll be able to upload your picture (or your kid’s or spouse’s) and print out a custom cover for your game that has your face on an NCAA Football 13 player! I think it’s a very cool way of making your game extra-special, especially if you wanted to give it as a gift.
I’ll be sharing our opinions of EA Sports NCAA Football 13 as soon as it comes out – and of our family game night, too. Be sure to come back and check it out, because I’ll have a special giveaway for you, too! In the meantime, check out EA Sports and NCAA Football on Facebook and Twitter.

Tilting your head DOES help with concentration. Haha!
My brothers would love this.
We love this game too and we are ready for NCAA Football 13!!! Can’t wait until July 10th!
