There’s always at least one person on my list each year that is kind of hard to shop for. Whether they’re the person that has everything, or they say they don’t need anything, or the kids are kind of at an in-between age where they’re too old for toys but too young for just clothes and “adult” stuff. You still want to get them something memorable and special, but what?

My mother-in-law sometimes falls on that “what do I get her?” list. Sometimes she’ll mention something new she’d love to have, and that’s helpful. Other times I sit and think and think and think and still come up dry. But not this year!

My in-laws love to travel and last year they did a tour and cruise in Europe. One of the places they had the chance to visit was Paris, France. For awhile now I’ve used a pedometer to track the steps I take during the day. It’s definitely a good way to encourage yourself to take the stairs when possible, or to circle the block a second time during your afternoon walk. They’re a little clunky, though, and depending on where you clip it, I had a tendency to knock it off when I’d walk.

When I saw the new Misfit Shine activity monitor, however, I knew I’d found better than the perfect replacement for my old-school pedometer. First of all, it’s incredibly sleek and stylish. It’s made of aircraft-grade aluminum and comes in grey, black, topaz, and champagne.

I can’t believe that our trip to walk the red carpet is only a few days away. From the moment I was invited I have been checking out websites for cocktail dresses at least once per day. They’re not exactly something I have a lot of in my closet; when you’ve been working from home for the last 5 years, your wardrobe tends to have more jeans than sparkles.

Fall is here and that means colder temperatures. After months of being in the 80s and 90s, it’s actually supposed to be pretty cold here the next few days. That means it’s time to think about putting away the t-shirts and flip-flops and digging out the sweaters and boots.

As much as I love my flip-flops – and I do love my flip-flops – I look forward to switching out my wardrobe and moving into comfy, cozy fall fashions. Not only do clothes get cozier in material and style, but the color palate changes, too. As the leaves change more earthy tones seem to abound and I get to wear some of my favorite colors: chocolate browns, cranberry, burnt orange, and others.

I think I’m probably a lot like most women, especially those of us who don’t have a trust fund, in that I keep my closet filled with a lot of basics that are easy to mix and match. But I do like to add a couple of pieces and a few accessories each season to help me keep current with the trends. I don’t want it to break the bank, though, so I keep my eyes peeled for great sales on quality items and shop for great accessories at places with great prices to match. Places like Meijer!

Before moving to Kentucky I had never even heard of Meijer. Once I shopped there a couple of times, though, I was hooked. They have a large, well-stocked grocery section paired with pretty much anything else you could want – toys, seasonal merchandise, pet supplies, and of course clothes and accessories.
