Was saving money one of your resolutions for this year?  It may be one of your perennial resolutions if you’re anything like me.  Some years I’m more successful than others, but I love learning about new ways to try and meet my goals.

Last year Isra at The Frugalette shared a 52 week savings challenge and I knew I wanted to give it a try for myself.  The premise is pretty simple: each week you add the number of dollars equal to the week of the year.  So during week one, you add a dollar.  During week 17, you add $17.  And so on.

52 Week Savings Challenge Chart

I have an online savings account; previously it was an Electric Orange account, but now they’ve partnered with Capital One and they’re called 360 Savings.  What I love about an online savings account is that while you still have access to the money, it’s not instantaneous.  So you have to think about it before you make a withdrawal. Over the weekend I had the opportunity to attend a virtual hangout with Katherine Heigl and Will Arnett, the voices behind two characters in the upcoming movie The Nut Job.  Just another Saturday afternoon, right?  They popped in after the L.A. premiere to talk with us about the film, being parents, and more.

The Nut Job's Andie (Katherine Heigl) and Surly (Will Arnett) #TheNutJob

In animated 3D, The Nut Job is set in fictional Oakton and follows Surly (voiced by Will Arnett), a mischievous purple squirrel.  After a hot dog stand heist by Grayson (voiced by Brendan Fraser) and Andie (voiced by Katherine Heigl) goes wrong, Surly is banished from the park by Raccoon (voiced by Liam Neeson).  With the help of his rat friend Buddy (voiced by Robert Tinkler), Surly plans a nut store heist of epic proportions. We received a copy of Henry Hugglemonster: Meet The Hugglemonsters in order to facilitate our review.  All thoughts and words are my own.

One of the newest additions to the Disney Junior line up is Henry Hugglemonster and his family.  If you’re not familiar with the TV show, no worries!  Today Henry Hugglemoster: Meet the Hugglemonsters is available on DVD so you can pick up a copy and watch seven double episodes all at once.

I knew Bubbles (and I) would like this show from the first time I saw an announcement commercial for it.  The theme song is one of those really catchy songs that gets in your head and keeps you humming.  The cheery “Hey, hey, hey it’s a Henry Hugglemonster kind of day” will stay with you long after the show has ended.

Five-year old Henry lives in Roarsville with his family.  His family includes his parents, grandparents, big brother Cobby, sister Summer, and baby brother Ivor.  Oh, and his dog Beckett! Continue reading »

Any form of potatoes will probably always be top of my list for side dishes or appetizers.  Partly from growing up in a potato-farming community and partly because they just taste so darn good.  Plus they’re incredibly versatile, so there’s not much chance to get bored with them.

Hubby and the kiddos also love potatoes, so they’re in pretty constant rotation with our meals.  Mostly we had done mashed, roasted reds, homemade fries, with the occasional hasselback or crash hot potatoes.  But then I ran across a new way to dish up potatoes and we have not looked back since.

Crispy Parmesan Potatoes Recipe

Seriously, once you make these potatoes you’re going to want them all. the. time.  Hubby tries to think of meals where I will suggest them as a side because he loves them so much.  They’re golden and crispy on the bottom and warm and soft on the inside.  My stomach is growling just thinking about them. I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This Disney FROZEN shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser.

Bubbles and I had the opportunity back in November to go and watch Disney FROZEN.  It was her second theater movie, and the first one she sat all the way through.  She was mesmerized from the start and over the last few weeks as she breaks into the song with “Let It Go” and asks for “warm hugs like Olaf” she’s proven that the movie made an impact on her.

When I was planning a special mother-daughter day for us recently, I decided it would be fun to do a FROZEN-themed day.  It certainly was apropos as the country was literally frozen in many places, including us here in Kentucky.  We’d been “enjoying” weather in the teens and it was about to dip below zero on the thermometer.  I wanted us to be able to get out and have some fun before it was too cold to be outside.
