You may have heard that there’s this little movie playing in theaters.  The one that dominated the box office last weekend.  The one with Angelina Jolie.

Angelina Jolie is Maleficent #Maleficent

The movie is Maleficent and I have heard nothing but amazing things about the film.  We have Austin & Ashley’s graduation party tomorrow, and Austin’s graduation itself on Sunday, but next week?  Next week will be a Maleficent movie date for hubby and I. Continue reading »

Was saving money one of your resolutions for this year?  It may be one of your perennial resolutions if you’re anything like me.  Some years I’m more successful than others, but I love learning about new ways to try and meet my goals.

Last year Isra at The Frugalette shared a 52 week savings challenge and I knew I wanted to give it a try for myself.  The premise is pretty simple: each week you add the number of dollars equal to the week of the year.  So during week one, you add a dollar.  During week 17, you add $17.  And so on.

52 Week Savings Challenge Chart

I have an online savings account; previously it was an Electric Orange account, but now they’ve partnered with Capital One and they’re called 360 Savings.  What I love about an online savings account is that while you still have access to the money, it’s not instantaneous.  So you have to think about it before you make a withdrawal. Thank you to MOM for providing an oil change checklist and a prize for myself and one of you.

Car maintenance has never really been my “thing”.  I mean, my Dad made sure I knew a few of the basics: I learned how to change a tire, how to check the oil and coolant levels in the car, things like that.  But the tire thing I’ve never done and the fluid levels I haven’t checked on my own in years.

My Dad was good about always reminding me to go get my oil changed.  Apparently the sticker in the corner of my windshield wasn’t quite enough.  I’d go and drop off the car, they’d call, and I’d go pick it up.  What the man behind the curtain did, I had no idea.  And now my husband reminds me, though his reminder really only prompts me to make an oil change appointment, and then he takes the car for me.  So I still didn’t really know much about it.
