So God Made a Farmer – and a Grandfather

Last night’s game started off rather boring.  The commercials weren’t really doing anything for me, either.  Then the Dodge Ram ad came on and there was silence – and a few tears – in the room.

See, I grew up on a farm.  My paternal grandfather was a farmer, my maternal grandparents were farmers, and my parents helped out on both sides.  And while I listened to Paul Harvey’s voice share all the special characteristics of farmers, I couldn’t help but think especially of my maternal grandfather who passed away a few years ago.

My grandfather worked hard.  Farmers’ days don’t start when the sun comes up and they don’t end when it goes down.  He would be up and out to work many times by 4 a.m. (a schedule that my grandmother, who is in her 80s, still often keeps).  And that was after getting up in the middle of the night to go stoke the fires in the potato houses so the harvested crop wouldn’t freeze in the middle of sub-zero Northern Maine winters. Do Your Kids Love Scooby-Doo?

The Scooby-Doo crew: Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma

Are you trying to finish some last-minute shopping for your kiddo’s wish list?  Maybe even just getting started?  (You’re not alone; one of our friends was just heading out this morning!)  If your kids love Scooby-Doo help is a click away!

Call the kids over and have them visit the new Warner Bros. Scooby Mystery Workshop site.  Here they will be able to create their own customized holiday wish list.  The site has Scooby-Doo toys, games, bedding, costumes and more.  After your child checks off their wish list you can either print it or have them email it to you.  And once they’re done there are other activities to help them have fun like playing games and winning prizes.

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Scooby-Doo. I received a product sample to thank me for participating.  All opinions, as always, are 100% that of myself and my family.

Meet A Fellow Social Fabric Blogger

Social Fabric blogger Tiffany - Home Grown Families

I’ve had the pleasure of being part of the Social Fabric community for a few months now and I am so thankful to be part of such an amazing group of bloggers.  They are supportive, fun, funny, creative and vocal.  Even though I’ve only met a couple of them (so far!) in person I can tell they would easily be a group of people I’d like to sit down with and share a few appetizers and laughs.

One member of the community is Tiffany Ellman (I love that last name; every time I glance at it I see Elfman and it makes me think of Christmas!) who is one of the bloggers behind Home Grown Families.  Tiffany is the single mom to three sweet (and active, from what I’ve seen!) girls.  I have been following Tiffany on Instagram for a few months now and she always shares fun photos of the things she is up to with her family.  For example, they recently met the man who played the Scarecrow on Broadway back in the 50s!  I also follow her on Pinterest; she has some great boards.  If you need a good giggle check out her two humor boards. Wet Ones Sticky Situations Facebook Contest

Win an iPad Mini or Six Flags tickets from Wet Ones

Your chance to win an iPad Mini or Six Flags Tickets!

Bubbles loves to create messes, though she doesn’t exactly like to be a mess herself (we spent five minutes tonight making sure that all errant pieces of glitter were washed off her hands; I swear that girl can see microscopic sparkles).  That’s why I always keep a stash of Wet Ones handy!  They’re great for de-glittering, de-cheese-ing, and many other sticky situations.

If you have a sticky story of your own you don’t want to miss the Wet Ones Sticky Situations Facebook contest!  Visit their Facebook page and share your story as well as tips on how to deal with messes.  It only takes a minute to enter and you could win an iPad Mini or 4-packs of tickets to Six Flags!

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Wet Ones. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.
