It's been a busy few weeks - my long to-do list!

This is what my to-do list has looked like lately!

Normally this time of year is fairly tame.  Lots of football-watching, some chili-making, a couple of zoo trips, and enjoying the last few warm-but-not-too-hot days of fall.  But over the last three weeks, we’ve had company (my parents came to stay for a week), the ABC Kids Expo, and the Graco event.  Our hectic schedule ended with A2 breaking his finger and requiring surgery last week.

I had scheduled some posts to go live for you all during that time, as I knew I probably wouldn’t have much time to write.  However, things didn’t go quite as planned, and the posts never published.  So I’ve been going back and releasing a few of them each day so as to not overwhelm you with information.  For those that subscribe via email or RSS that’s why you’re seeing a few “old” posts come through.

Things should be settling down now (at least until Christmas gets a little closer!) so we should be back on track and more consistent.  I just wanted to let everyone know why things had been a little “silent” for a few days!

Is this a busy time of year for you, too?  Or are you enjoying the quiet before the holidays?

When I attended BlissDom ’12 in Nashville last year, it was my first time ever attending a blogging conference.  I was both excited and nervous: I wasn’t sure what to expect, I wasn’t going as part of a group, and I wasn’t even sure I considered myself and my blog “worthy” of attending.  I was still working to find my voice and direction, trying to figure out what this thing called “SEO” was, and attempting to navigate all the intricacies of the blogging world.  All while looking at the other bloggers around me saying “Wow, I will never be that big/good/well-known”.

Gaylord Opryland Hotel BlissDom '12

A photo I took inside the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. This was before my photography classes; imagine how much better my images would be after attending BlissDom ’13!

If I was already nervous, walking into the massive Opryland Hotel didn’t immediately quell those nerves.  After walking for what seemed like miles, I arrived at the registration desk where I checked in and then went to find a seat to listen to the opening ceremony.  The key note speaker was Jon Acuff, author of Quitter: Closing the Gap Between Your Day Job and Your Dream Job.  His entire talk was good, but he said one thing that immediately resonated with me.  He said “Never compare your beginning to someone else’s middle.” Continue reading »

Are you a home cook living in Kentucky?

I have loved to cook for my entire life.  I “opened” my first restaurant out of my mother’s kitchen when I was 7 or 8 years old, offering scrambled eggs, toast, bacon, and juice for 25 cents a plate.  My mom laughed – until the neighbors would swing by and ask me for my breakfast special (prices quickly rose at my mother’s request; we did have to cover our expenses, of course!).

Limited Edition Hunt's Delicious Dinners Cravebox - Kentucky Home Cooks

I still love to cook now, but I don’t have nearly as much time to get creative in the kitchen as I did back then. Work, family, errands, household tasks, reading “My Little Word Book” to my daughter for the 19th time that day – there just ins’t as much free time on my calendar as there were in my younger days.  That’s why I can’t wait to receive my limited edition Hunt’s® Delicious Dinners Cravebox!

This Cravebox will feature a new Dinner Sauce from Hunt’s that has the garden-fresh taste of Hunt’s California-grown tomatoes, combined with ethnic-inspired seasonings and ingredients.  They cost just $10 (to cover the cost of shipping and handling) and contain a collection of products that will help you create a tasty, easy meal for your family.  The icing on the cake?  Ten random boxes will contain a $100 VISA gift card and one random box will contain a grand prize worth $250!

These boxes are limited to residents of Kentucky and are sure to go quickly.  If you’re interested in getting in on this offer, head over to the Cravebox Hunt’s Delicious Dinners page and register!  Boxes are expected to ship on or around September 1st.

This is a sponsored post by me on behalf of SheSpeaks and Cravebox.  All opinions are, as always, 100% that of myself and my family.

It’s almost Mother’s Day, and I’ve been thinking about what to send my Mom.  One of the challenges of living so far away, is that it does limit your gift choices somewhat.  It either has to be something that will fit in a box to mail, or that can be delivered by someone else.  Sometimes I’ve sent gift cards; they’re definitely easy to mail, but a tiny bit impersonal for a special holiday.

One great solution is flowers from Teleflora!  Teleflora has dozens of beautiful arrangements that would be perfect for Mother’s Day gift-giving.  You’ll definitely be sure to find something that fits the style and personality of your mom – or any one, for that matter.

Teleflora Fashionista Blooms Bouquet

Teleflora Fashionista Blooms Bouquet

I’ve been trying to decide which I would consider to be my favorite, and it’s been a challenge as they really are all very pretty.  If I had to choose, however, I think the Fashionista Blooms would be the arrangement I’d pick to send my Mom.  I love the raffia and ribbon wrap around the middle and the colors would compliment her kitchen or enclosed porch so nicely.

What about you?  If you were going to order flowers for Mother’s Day, which bouquet would you choose and why?  Feel free to leave a direct link to your choice in the comments below!
