How do you teach toddlers to be thankful?  With Thanksgiving looming just days away, it’s a question that has been on my mind.  I want Bubbles to be able to put meaning to the holidays and not just look at them as a time that everyone gets together to eat.

Sam's Club Healthy Living Made Simple App

I recently was flipping through the Healthy Living Made Simple app on my iPhone (it’s also available for the iPad) and I came across an article on teaching toddlers thankfulness.  The app is a companion for the online magazine from Sam’s Club.  It had some good information – plus a nice reassurance that it’s completely normal for your toddlers to not always remember to say thank you before opening a gift or to grumbling about what they have versus what they want. Last year when we went to Maine to visit my family I also was excited to see my friend Em.  Em was one of my best friends in high school and even though we don’t get to talk every day, it’s still the kind of friendship where we text each other when our favorite movie is on TV.  And when we do have the chance to get together, it’s still an easy conversation.

Em has a sweet (and super-smart) daughter named Cam. Cam is 10 and when her mom came to visit at the house where I was staying, Cam came along.  It was actually great because Cam and Bubbles played together while we got caught up on each other’s lives.  (By the way, if you happen to be the aforementioned Em – stop reading here, please). This DIY coffee creamer bottle snowman post is sponsored by TapInfluence. All words and opinions are my own.

The other day I was pouring a little of the seasonal International Delight Sugar Cookie coffee creamer into my afternoon coffee, and I heard Bubbles singing in the other room.  As the words “Do you want to build a snowman?” drifted my way, I looked down at the coffee creamer bottle in my hand and realized – yes, yes I did.  I wanted to build a snowman.

DIY Marshmallow Dispenser: Coffee Creamer Bottle Snowman

The shape of a plastic coffee creamer bottle lends itself perfectly to being transformed into a snowman.  And because after you peel the label off they’re already kind of a milky-white color, there’s not a lot of work that needs to be done.  This is literally one of the easiest DIY projects you’ll ever try, but the results are down-right adorable. A few months ago my Gram passed away.  I haven’t really mentioned it much – if at all – but those who are regular readers probably noticed that there were a few long stretches of little to no posting.

Christmas was always a huge holiday at my grandparents’ house, and I can vividly remember just how she had it decorated every year.  After she passed, a few of those pieces came to me.  I don’t have quite the same setup she did and so I’ve been trying to figure out where to display them.

I received some of the Brilliance Award Winners mentioned in order to facilitate my post. All words and opinions are my own.

I’ve been visiting Brilliant Sky Toys & Books for awhile now.  Our local store has such an amazing selection plus the opportunity to play hands-on with a number of different toys.  Bubbles would move in, I think, if they’d let her; she asks to visit any time we’re even remotely in the area.

Brilliant Sky Toys & Books of Louisville

Every year for the past five years, Brilliant Sky Toys & Books has gone through the thousands of toys and books sold through their 17 locations around the country and selected their favorites.  These favorites are known as the Brilliance Award winners and they are chosen based on quality, the value of open-ended play, and the simple beauty of a child’s fascination and delight.  This year they’ve selected 10 pretty amazing offerings, and they are the following: Continue reading »
