This post on sun safety tips is a partnered post with Xperio. All opinions are my own.

It’s National Sunglasses Day and I thought it was an appropriate time to discuss sun safety tips for protecting your eyes.  Most of us remember to put sunscreen on to protect our skin, and then don’t give another thought to our eyes.

Sun Safety Tips for Protecting Your Eyes and Vision

But prolonged exposure to the sun without protection can cause cataracts, macular degeneration and a number of other eye problems, including sunburn on the surface of the eye and skin cancer around the eyes.  With about 3 million people going blind each year from prolonged UV exposure, it’s something we all should think about daily. My sister-in-law’s baby shower is coming up in a little over a month and I’m getting excited.  I unfortunately won’t be able to make it back to Maine to attend so that means I need to get my DIY baby shower gifts, shopping, and decor ideas done now so I have time to mail them.

I love shopping for baby boy stuff which is a good thing considering that all the baby cousins have been boys.  And with Sam and Abby having just found out they are having a boy, too, I’ve had a better idea of all the goodies I want to pick up to send for the shower and birth.

Kentucky is famous for a number of things you’ve probably heard of.  Horses and horse racing, the Louisville Slugger, Kentucky Bluegrass.  But you may or may not be familiar with one of Louisville’s most famous offerings: the Hot Brown.

My Hot Brown Hot Dog Recipe is inspired by the Hot Brown sandwich made famous here in Louisville, KY. It's topped with fresh diced tomatoes and a yummy Mornay sauce with two kinds of cheese!

It’s an open-faced turkey sandwich with sliced tomatoes, Mornay sauce and some other tastiness.  The flavors go together really nicely and I was trying to think of other ways to pair them together.  And I came up with this Hot Brown-inspired Hot Dog recipe for you all. Continue reading »

It’s been warm enough to count as summer here for awhile, but for some reason mid-June has always felt like the ‘official’ start to summer for me.  Probably because during my middle school and high school years school always released around this time.  I guess I still have a case of “school’s out for the summer”.

Free Printable Checklist of Summer Bucket List Ideas for the Whole Family - don't forget to make fresh lemonade, go camping in your backyard, and catch some fireworks!

Bubbles has started to give suggestions of things she wants to do this summer and places she wants to go.  We’re also trying to include Austin and his thoughts in our summer planning as he’ll be leaving for boot camp in about a month.  So we’ve come up with some summer bucket list ideas that the whole family can enjoy (you can click the image above for a printable pdf version). I like finding ways to add a surprise element of fun to an otherwise “everyday” kind of event.  Bubbles is always and forever wanting to play with and in the boxes that get delivered to the house, so I thought it would be fun to turn one of them into an actual cardboard box car that she could play with.  And since we’d received a few kids DVDs in the mail over the previous few weeks I decided to unveil the “car” as part of a drive in movie experience.

Make an easy DIY Cardboard Box Car for a fun drive in movie experience for your kids

Bubbles has pretended that cardboard boxes are all manner of vehicles in the past.  But I figured that with a few inexpensive supplies I could make a cardboard box car that would last a little longer and help enhance her imaginative play.  The best part was that it only took about fifteen minutes to make and most of that time is taping the “body” of the car.
