What is your favorite football memory?

I know I’ve mentioned it once or twice lately, but football season is almost here!  This past weekend we even enjoyed some preseason games on TV.  Now we’re just counting the days until the NCAA games start.

We didn’t make it to any UK games last season, but the year before that we did.  Being inside Commonwealth Stadium – and I’m sure any NCAA stadium where you’re cheering on the home team – is such an amazing experience.  The sounds and smells swirl up around you, and you find yourself alternately groaning on every missed pass and goal and screaming at the top of your lungs for excellent plays and touchdowns. TCBY Frozen Yogurt is now available in your grocer’s freezer!

School went back in session here this past week – can you believe it?  The freedom days of summer went by so quickly!  A2 was kind of ready to start back; I think we all remember how summer was exciting for the first few weeks school was out, but by the end, boredom set in somewhat.

To celebrate the end of summer I decided it would be nice to have a sweet treat the night before school officially started.  Both A1 and A2 are following fitness routines and eating “clean” right now, so I had to think a little bit about what we could have that wouldn’t be too over-the-top for either of them.  What I really wanted to make was the Chocolate Trifle that my Mom made many times when I was growing up; so very tasty, but not even close to the definition of the word “light”.  Her trifle consisted of layers of chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, whipped topping, crushed toffee bars, finished with chocolate sauce drizzled over the top.  Plus I knew if I made it we’d end up with a lot left over.

Then I started thinking about how to create individual portions and what other ingredients we might be able to use to lighten dessert up.  I recalled that the last time I was at Walmart TCBY Frozen Yogurt had moved in; froyo could definitely work!  With less fat and calories than traditional ice cream it was definitely a lighter option and with the number of flavors available it could be layered with a number of different ingredients.

A couple of weeks ago I shared with you that my family was playing a lot of NCAA Football 12 to gear up for the release of #NCAAFootball13.  And now it’s here!  It released last Thursday and after work I headed over to pick a copy up.  If you follow me on Twitter, you may have caught my tweet with a picture of all the EA Sports NCAA Football 13 games that were on display.

After picking up our copy for the PS3 it was time for the rest of my shopping list.  In addition to a few regular grocery items, I needed a few things for dinner that night, plus lots of snacks for while we played.  You can view my Google+ Album to see my entire shopping trip. Continue reading »

Summer is a great time of year – expect for one thing.  There’s no football!  From the moment the seasons end until the day training starts, my husband and A2 are lamenting the loss of games on TV.  I don’t necessarily lament the break in the season (I do enjoy all the baseball games in the interim), but I do miss football, also.  As I’ve mentioned probably a hundred times, we’re BIG University of Kentucky fans and love attending the games at Commonwealth Stadium.

So what is a football fan to do when there’s no football on TV?  Play football video games, of course!

Here are just a few of our console games – notice all the football titles?

In addition to being football fans, we’re a family of gamers.  Whether it’s an online game, PC game, console game – or even board games! – you can often find at least one of us mashing a few buttons.  Right now we’ve been playing a lot of  EA Sports NCAA Football 12 in order to get ready for the release of NCAA Football 13! You may remember that a couple of weeks ago Bubbles and I went shopping at Walmart in search of Jennie-O turkey products to kick off our Jennie-O Make The Switch challenge.  I shared with you at the time that we were working on a surprise Champions for Kids SIMPLE Service Project.  We were going to give up something unhealthy and/or unnecessary and put those savings towards making a donation that would provide meals for hungry children.

The project I had originally planned we were unable to complete due to some red tape.  Not to be deterred, I quickly moved us on to Plan B. Continue reading »
