Our plans for Valentine’s Day are starting to take shape.  We’ve decided to go out to lunch for a family “date” in the afternoon, and then that night we may do the indoor picnic about which she’s been asking.  Then probably finish up with one of the family-friendly movies for Valentine’s Day that I shared a bit ago.

Kick off Valentine's Day with your kiddos by watching the new Doc McStuffins Cuddle Me Lambie DVD. Includes free Lambie hair clips, too!

In the morning, of course, we’ll have breakfast.  Maybe some heart-shaped toast with peanut butter to go with her yogurt (her breakfast repertoire isn’t very deep).  After that we like to spend a little time snuggling and watching one of her shows together. Continue reading »

Bubbles has been very excited about Valentine’s Day this year.  I think part of it is how closely it both follows Christmas and precedes her birthday.  It’s just an exciting time of year.

She has been asking what we’re going to do to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and as this is the first year she’s showed much interest, I’m leaving it up to her.  (Within reason, of course.)  So while that’s unlikely to mean a fancy dinner out for hubby and I, it will mean a lot of family fun for all of us, and I prefer that any day of the week, anyway.

Easy Valentine’s Knotted Fleece Pillow

DIY Crafts for Valentine's - "Torn" Pillow

Even before having a family of my own Family Fun magazine has always been one of my favorites.  I subscribe to a number of magazines but Family Fun is one that I save each issue to refer to later.  It always has lots of fun activities, recipes, and crafts to do and make with the kiddos.  In their recent December/January edition they had some cute DIY gifts that kids could make and one suggestion was for baseball and football knotted fleece pillows.  As soon as I saw them I knew I’d love to do a heart-shaped one for Valentine’s Day.

One of the best parts of this craft project is how quick and easy it is to complete.  Bubbles generally naps for about 45 minutes and I had time to do a couple of chores before sitting down to make the pillow.  I think they’re really cute and will be a nice homemade addition to Bubbles’ Valentine’s gift. Hallmark Valentine’s Gifts for Kids

Hallmark Valentine's Gifts for Kids

When you hear Valentine’s Day it’s natural to think about a spouse or significant other and the flowers, chocolates, and dinners out that may come with the day.  But let’s not forget about the kiddos!  We tell our children every day that we love them but Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to go just a little further and do something extra-special for them.

What’s more special for your child than to be able to hear your voice whenever they want?  That’s exactly the concept behind the “Until We Hug Again” bear and bunny.  They’re also great for family members that live in other parts of the country, need to travel over the holiday, or for moms and dads that are currently deployed.  The bear and bunny are incredibly sweet and soft and make the perfect vessel for your personal greeting.  As soon as Bubbles saw it she squealed “Teddy!” and decided he was her new best friend.  I managed to hold on to it long enough to record her a little message and she’s been fascinated to hear my voice every time she hugs him. I love quick and easy recipes that also make great gifts and these chocolate covered pretzels fit that bill!  Packaged in an easy DIY Valentine’s Day Treat Bag with stickers, they make a cute gift for Valentine’s Day.  They’re also really easy for kids to help make.  Bubbles helped me make a batch yesterday and she had a great time mixing, sprinkling, and dipping.

Easy Chocolate Covered Pretzels for Valentine's Day

If you have a child in elementary school these might make a nice Valentine for their friends. Just add their names for a personalized Valentine’s treat.  Even junior high- and high school-aged kids like to give valentines and these could work for them too.  Personally, I wouldn’t mind receiving a bag of these either.
