At the start of 2013 I shared with you my favorite Disney movies of 2012. There were so many great new additions this past year that I wanted to share a 2013 Disney movies roundup with you. All of these movies – listed in chronological order – are can’t-miss and if you didn’t catch them at the theater or pick up DVD copies yet, you should plan to for this year.
Here is this week’s round up of kids entertainment. Be sure to download and print the free, fun activities from Monsters University!
The Hive: A Very Buzzbee Christmas is available on DVD. Great for the holiday season, the DVD includes 10 episodes from the Disney Junior television series. ”Babee’s First Christmas” is an especially great episode to watch if you happen to have an older sibling processing a younger sibling’s first Christmas. Throughout all the episodes kiddos will learn about holidays and traditions, teamwork, and compassion.
I received a copy of Monsters University in order to facilitate my review. All thoughts and words are my own.
One of my favorite movies from Disney and Pixar in the past few years is Monsters, Inc. They put together a great cast of characters that include the lovable Sulley, the little-bit-high-strung-yet-funny Mike, and the adorable Boo. And while Roz wasn’t on screen much, her lines made me laugh every single time.
So I was extremely excited when I hear that Disney/Pixar was going to release a prequel to Monsters, Inc. called Monsters University. Most movie franchises go right to the sequel so I immediately liked that they were taking a different path. Plus I’ve always wanted a little more of the back story, as Mike and Sulley seemed somewhat unlikely friends.
Just before heading to the L.A. premieres of two other Disney movies my family and I sat down to watch Monsters U together. Bubbles had already seen Monsters, Inc. a few times and we suspected that she’d be a fan of the new installment, also. And of course, she was; she sat down and watched the entire thing from start to finish with us.

There is a lot of exciting news to share with you this week in my entertainment roundup. There are free printables for the kiddos, new DVDs, cool apps, and more. There’s even information on how to win $25,000!
The Little Mermaid
For someone whose favorite live show at Disney World has always been The Little Mermaid show at Hollywood Studios, I’m extremely excited to share that “Second Screen Live: The Little Mermaid” will be exclusively in select theaters starting September 20th. You’ll be able to experience the classic like never before with Disney’s new Second Screen Live technology.
Second Screen Live technology will allow you to interact and engage with the film, fellow audience members, and each other through the free Second Screen Live: The Little Mermaid App. Download it to your iPad or iPad mini and bring your device to the theater. You’ll be able to find hidden treasure, sing along, and compete with the audience for a chance to win prizes.
Here is the weekly movie news for the first full week of August (can you believe August is already here?). New trailer, some fun games and videos, a soundtrack song release, and more.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
The first track of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” soundtrack is about to be released. On August 26th “Atlas” by Coldplay will be available for purchase. This is the first time that the multi-Grammy winning band has recorded an original song for a major motion picture. This is in preparation for Catching Fire‘s November 22nd theatrical release. The first partnership between Republic Records and Lionsgate yielded the Grammy-winning, chart-dominating “The Hunger Games: Songs From District 12 And Beyond” featuring Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, and others.
