Lots of great kids movies (and some for adults, too!) in this week’s weekly entertainment roundup.  I have to say, the announcement of Second Screen Live for The Nightmare Before Christmas has us strongly considering a quick road trip to Tennessee.  It’s one of my favorite movies from when I was in high school and I think it would be cool to see it in conjunction with that technology.

We received a Disney Princess & Me Jewel Edition Belle in order to facilitate our review.  No additional compensation was received and all words and thoughts are my own.

My husband thinks I put her up to it (I don’t), but Bubbles randomly starts running around the house yelling, “I do, I do, I DO want to go to Disney!”  She then tells us a list of all the friends she wants to meet while there: Minnie & Mickey, Tinker Bell and the fairies, and, of course, the princesses.  Kind of hard to deny that enthusiasm!

While we can’t hop down the road to Disney World right now, we can create opportunities to play with her friends while at home.  Last month Disney had an “I am a PRINCESS weekend” on the Disney Channel.  If you missed it, don’t worry.  There’s lot of princess goodness scheduled for the rest of the year.

In addition to watching Princess movies like Tangled and Cinderella on the Disney Channel or on DVDs, we also like to play princess.  Bubbles has a tiara that she likes to wear, as well as a fancy “princess skirt” made of tulle.  She then sends her little princess and prince friends off on fun adventures in her castle – like when they all received puppies to take care of, went to a ball, or even when they’re just having naptime (“Shh, mama, the princesses are sleepy”).

Now, though, Bubbles has a big princess friend to play with.  Recently a Disney Princess & Me Jewel Edition Belle came to live with us.  At 21″ high, she’s not quite life-sized but she’s pretty close. Continue reading »

Thank you to Disney for covering my trip expenses to allow me to attend this great event!  All words and opinions are my own.

Some days you wake up to happy surprises.  You find $5 in the pocket of the jeans you put on, your spouse filled your gas tank so you don’t have to stop on the way to work, maybe the person in front of you at the coffee shop pays for your latte.  And then there’s the surprise I woke up to the other day.

On that day, I opened an email that I had to read a couple of times to actually soak in.  I was being invited to travel to LA and attend the red carpet premiere of Thor: The Dark World (in theaters 11/8)!  Yep, that’s right – myself, along with 24 other bloggers, will soon be jumping on planes and heading to California.  The Avengers and all the stand-alone movies that support the characters is one of my all-time favorite franchises, so this is incredibly exciting for me. There are lots of upcoming movie releases, plus the first-even Curious George Halloween special, new TV shows and apps, and more. One show new to DVD is Disney’s Gravity Falls. I’m curious if any of you have watched it and what your opinions are? Leave me a comment and let me know!

PEG + CAT

PEG + CAT on PBS KIDS

Don’t miss the premiere of the new PBS KIDS show PEG + CAT. It kicks off on Monday, October 7th, on your local PBS channel. And just in time for the first episode, you can download the PEG + CAT app, PEG + CAT Big Gig (for iOS and Android).  While singing along to songs and simple melodies from the TV series, kids can practice counting up and down by ones and twos, adding ones, and extending patterns.  Kids can even make their own music with the Sound Check game, where funky music can be recorded and played back. I received a copy of The Little Mermaid Diamond Edition in order to facilitate my review.  All words and opinions are my own.

The Little Mermaid has been on my Top 5 Disney movie list pretty much all my life.  I can almost quote the entire thing, and I can definitely sing every word to every song.  You have to love whosits and whatsits.  Plus I could listen to Jodi Benson’s voice all day long.

I really thought it would be a movie that Bubbles would enjoy, too, but up until recently my only copy was an old VHS.  Crazy, I know.  But when we received The Little Mermaid Diamond Edition Blu-ray Combo pack and I was finally able to introduce her to the magic of mermaids and love at first sight (or speak, in this case).  Turns out I was also introducing my husband to the movie.  I could not believe that he had not seen The Little Mermaid, especially because he never mentioned anything when we watched the stage show at Hollywood Studios in Disney World.

While I do love Ariel, I have to say my favorite character is probably Sebastian.  I love that little crab.  He cares about Ariel so much and tries so hard to keep her out of trouble.  And when she finds herself in a pickle despite his efforts, then he jumps in with both claws to help her in any way he can – even if he’s at risk of the wrath of King Triton.
