Lots of great kids movies (and some for adults, too!) in this week’s weekly entertainment roundup.  I have to say, the announcement of Second Screen Live for The Nightmare Before Christmas has us strongly considering a quick road trip to Tennessee.  It’s one of my favorite movies from when I was in high school and I think it would be cool to see it in conjunction with that technology.

Marvel’s Avengers Assemble

Great Kids Movies: Marvel's Avengers Assemble: Assembly Required on DVD

Marvel’s Avengers Assemble: Assembly Required is now available on DVD.  If you’re an Avengers or Marvel fan, you’ll want to check out this new 2-part event.

Can the world’s most powerful team of Super Heroes put aside their differences and learn to live together under one roof long enough to save the world from ultimate destruction?  The answer will be revealed when the Red Skull and M.O.D.O.K. wage war on The Avengers.

Despicable Me 2

Great Kids Movies: Despicable Me 2

Universal Studio’s Despicable Me 2 will be available for purchase on December 10th.  This was actually Bubbles’ first movie to be seen in a theater, and she loved it, so we’ll definitely be picking up a copy once it comes out.

In this follow-up to the 2010 worldwide blockbuster, Steve Carell returns to play Gru, the newly reformed master criminal now trying to live life as a normal dad to his three adopted daughters. Carell leads a voice cast of comedic powerhouses that includes Kristin Wiig, Benjamin Bratt, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand), Steve Coogan, Ken Jeong, Elsie Fisher, Dana Gaier and Moisés Arias.

In addition, this Thanksgiving Manhattan will share a memorable moment of Minion Madness with the world when a brand new Despicable Me 2 float joins the 87th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® in celebration of the home entertainment release. The parade airs nationwide on NBC-TV, on Thursday, November 28, 2013 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM in all time zones.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Last month I shared that The Little Mermaid was going to be available through something really cool called Second Screen Live.  Now you can also enjoy another one of my favorite movies – The Nightmare Before Christmas – with the same technology.  Just download the Second Screen Live: The Nightmare Before Christmas app and then bring your iPad with you to the theater.  You’ll get to play games, sing along, and discover other surprises.

Starting October 18th, you can find the fun in the following participating theaters:

  • City Center 15: Cinema de Lux (White Plains, NY)
  • Farmingdale Multiplex Cinemas (Farmingdale, NY)
