Bubbles has been asking to get a dog for about a year now.  Being a dog person myself – my parents got a puppy a few weeks before I came home with them and from then until I graduated college, we almost always had a dog.  So selling me on the merits of a ball of fur is not all that hard.

We probably will get one this spring or summer.  I think Bubbles is at a good age to be able to treat a puppy gently and it will be good for her to learn the responsibility of feeding, walking, cleaning up after.  But I am not interested in potty training a dog in the cold of winter, ya know? One of the rites of passage when I was younger was receiving your class ring.  I’ve come to learn that the tradition of how and when kids receive their ring varies widely by state to state (and likely even school to school).  The constant, though, is that it was still kind of a big deal.

As a lot of school-related traditions have changed or faded over the years but class rings haven’t been one of them.  I think part of it is because you can make it a really personal thing – chose the stone, the style, the activities you want highlighted, everything.  I received mine as an 8th grade graduation present, which was awesome: I had 4 years of school to wear it.
