Bubbles has been a lot of fun this year with all things Christmas, and it’s not even December yet! I can’t wait to see what she thinks of snow, a live Santa Claus, gifts under the tree, and many other things. I think most folks know the story of the origins of our modern Thanksgiving. And some might know that President George Washington declared November 26th, 1789 as a day to give thanks. After that, celebrations of thankfulness continued, but no official holiday was named.
Then President Lincoln – in an attempt to foster a sense of unity between the northern and southern states – declared Thanksgiving a national holiday to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November. (Roosevelt later came along and changed it to the fourth Thursday for economic reasons. So I guess you can thank Lincoln for Thanksgiving, and Roosevelt for Black Friday.)

Decorating for holidays is one of my favorite things to do, and while Christmas decorations get me most excited, I do like to dress things up for Thanksgiving, too! I had planned to spend some time tomorrow making a few treats for the Thanksgiving table we’ll be dining on. However we need to take A2 for a follow-up appointment for his broken finger, so tonight will be my crafty night. Nothing like the last minute, right?

Thanksgiving is Thursday! I can’t believe it’s already here. We’re having Thanksgiving at a family member’s house this year, so I’m not responsible for all the main courses. But I do need to make an appetizer, rolls, and a dessert. I have some perennial favorites, but for the rest, I of course turned to the best resource I know: Pinterest! Here are ten of my favorite Thanksgiving recipes. And while I don’t need to make the turkey this year, I couldn’t resist adding Alton Brown’s turkey recipe – it’s amazing!
