A few days ago I shared with you that Champions for Kids had partnered with Spinbrush for a new SIMPLE Service Project – Spin Into Action – and that my family was excited to be participating.  Well, over the past few days we’ve also involved our family and friends to collect a donation of oral health care items.  We also made a return trip back to Walmart (you can see our entire first shopping trip here) to pick up a few additional donations of our own.

When we hit the oral health care aisle at Walmart I was glad to see that they had some of the Captain American Spinbrushes left, because it was one I really wanted to include in my donation.  They also had plenty of the My Way! Spinbrushes which I think are completely cool (really, where were all these fun toothbrushes when I was a kid?).  Since I had already picked up a Captain America one, I went with the pink My Way! one to balance it out. A couple of weeks ago I shared with you that my family was playing a lot of NCAA Football 12 to gear up for the release of #NCAAFootball13.  And now it’s here!  It released last Thursday and after work I headed over to pick a copy up.  If you follow me on Twitter, you may have caught my tweet with a picture of all the EA Sports NCAA Football 13 games that were on display.

After picking up our copy for the PS3 it was time for the rest of my shopping list.  In addition to a few regular grocery items, I needed a few things for dinner that night, plus lots of snacks for while we played.  You can view my Google+ Album to see my entire shopping trip. Continue reading »

It may only be July, but that doesn’t mean I’m not thinking about and planning for Christmas already.  I’ve done a little shopping, purchased some ornaments today at the Hallmark Ornament Premiere, and I’ve been thinking about holiday decor.  Which, of course, means flipping through magazines and catalogs, plus whiling away nap times pinning things to my Pinterest.

Christmas Crafts for Kids: DIY Felt Christmas Tree Activity For Kids

Pinterest is where I first saw this supremely cute felt Christmas tree by Johnny In A Dress that the author made to entertain her toddler in hopes of keeping her away from the real tree.  With as much as Bubbles enjoys stickers, I thought that she might really be interested in this, so I decided to make my own version of a Felt Christmas Tree With Peel & Stick Ornaments For Kids.  The needed supplies are fairly minimal: felt and a loaded hot glue gun.  Really, that’s it. Growing up in New England nautical- and ocean-themed home decor items were a fairly common site.  We lived in a more northern part of Maine, so we didn’t have as much right where I lived, but one of my aunts, her husband and family lived on a little island off the coast.  When we visited it the ocean surrounded us, lobsters were printed on serving dishes, and boats were around every corner.

Living in Kentucky… well, not so much.  I get excited when I see a Maine Lobster or Maryland Crab sign, and though it doesn’t go with any of our decor, I always look at the nautical prints and items a little wistfully.

A few months ago I introduced you to Champions for Kids when I participated in my first Simple Service Project.  We really enjoyed making a difference, even if it was a small one.  So I was really excited when I was offered the opportunity to participate in a second one, this time partnering with Arm & Hammer and their Spinbrush line.

Many families, especially in this economic climate, have to make sacrifices, and for some of them one of the cuts made is dental care.  In fact, 19% of kids between the ages of 2 and 19 have untreated cavities.  This can lead to embarrassment, pain, and distraction from their education.
