Bubbles has been asking to get a dog for about a year now.  Being a dog person myself – my parents got a puppy a few weeks before I came home with them and from then until I graduated college, we almost always had a dog.  So selling me on the merits of a ball of fur is not all that hard.

Meet The Happy's Pets - this is Lulu the pink poodle. Please note that Lulu was turned off for this photo, and kids should never let their hair near #TheHappys

We probably will get one this spring or summer.  I think Bubbles is at a good age to be able to treat a puppy gently and it will be good for her to learn the responsibility of feeding, walking, cleaning up after.  But I am not interested in potty training a dog in the cold of winter, ya know? Bubbles is very “girly girl”.  She loves sparkles and glitter, lip gloss and hair ties, skirts and ruffles and dolls and everything else you can think of.  But on the flip side of that coin she loves planes, trains and cars, bugs, and playing ball.

A bit before Halloween I ran across Monster 500 toys and showed them to Bubbles.  She got a huge kick out of the pictures and so when I was offered a few Monster 500 products to check out I knew she’d be excited.  Hubby was impressed as we unpacked the box, too, which is always a good sign.

Monster 500 Flattop Frank Large Vehicle

There are 10 different Monster 500 characters available in the 3-inch diecast vehicles.  Each comes with a trading card that has a code that unlocks a monster car in the Monster 500 Racing App.  Larger vehicles (4″ high and 5″ long) are also available in four monster choices: Zoom Zombie, CrocPot, Lead Foot, and Flattop Frank. I received LeapFrog LeapTV products in order to facilitate my review. All words and opinions are my own.

Technology is becoming more kid-friendly by the day. And when I want the latest and greatest in tech for kids, I look to LeapFrog. We’ve long been a fan of their products and with the new release of the LeapFrog LeapTV, they’ve given their best offering to date.

Kids can learn and have fun - all while staying active - with the new LeapFrog LeapTV Game System

Bubbles loves to play along with whatever Mommy and Daddy are doing, but let’s be real – the gaming systems out there right now are designed for adults, not kids. Even if there are family-friendly games, the controllers are designed with dexterity in mind, not learning. And though I can button-mash with the best of them, letting kids play a game that way just leads to their frustration. Continue reading »

I received some of the Brilliance Award Winners mentioned in order to facilitate my post. All words and opinions are my own.

I’ve been visiting Brilliant Sky Toys & Books for awhile now.  Our local store has such an amazing selection plus the opportunity to play hands-on with a number of different toys.  Bubbles would move in, I think, if they’d let her; she asks to visit any time we’re even remotely in the area.

Brilliant Sky Toys & Books of Louisville

Every year for the past five years, Brilliant Sky Toys & Books has gone through the thousands of toys and books sold through their 17 locations around the country and selected their favorites.  These favorites are known as the Brilliance Award winners and they are chosen based on quality, the value of open-ended play, and the simple beauty of a child’s fascination and delight.  This year they’ve selected 10 pretty amazing offerings, and they are the following: Continue reading »

I have received this product from MGA as part of their toy tester program. All thoughts and words are my own.

Let me state the obvious for just a moment: kids grow really fast.  I was swapping out the summer shoes for our fall and winter ones today and I noticed how much bigger Bubbles’ shoes are this year versus the size they were last year at this time.  She’s growing so fast!

Little Tikes Trike: 4-in-1 Sports Edition

It always makes me a little sad when I change out the seasons or upgrade the size of our kid gear.  Not just because it marks the passage of time – though that does make me sniffle some – but because most of what we clean out still has a lot of life left to it. Continue reading »
