I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for McCain Foods.  I received a sample of McCain Potato Smiles to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.

I know that if I were to play a game of word association with you all, and I said “potato”, most of you would probably say “Idaho”.  But I’d say “Maine”, especially considering that I grew up with both of my parents coming from potato-farming families.  And while they might not be the largest producer in the country, I personally think they produce some of the best-tasting potatoes.

Suffice to say this has made me a bit of a potato “snob”.  I agonize in the produce section of the grocery store.  Often what they pass off as a baking potato – sunburned (when they’re green), dinged, bruised, and scaly – makes me want to call home and ask my parents to ship me a 50 pound bag to get us through for a bit.

McCain Potato Smiles - Natural Ingredients, Delicious Taste!

One place that I don’t worry about the quality is in a bag of McCain Potatoes.  They are the frozen french fries, tater tots, and other goodies that I grew up eating.  It didn’t hurt that McCain’s had a potato processing plant not too far from my hometown.  We loved being able to support companies that supported our area, and it’s so much easier when the product is so awesome. October is just a couple of days away and, at least around here, people are starting to break out the fall and Halloween decorations.  We haven’t started decorating just yet, but I have been looking at pumpkin stencils and thinking about what pumpkin carvings we might do this year.  I plan to print out a few and let Bubbles make the final decision (though I have a hunch that Bubble Puppy might be one of her choices).

If you like to carve pumpkins, too, and aren’t sure which designs your Jack-O’-Lanterns will be taking this year, I thought I’d share some of the pumpkin stencils I’ve collected over the years, plus a few that I’ve found recently.

Thanks to Disney for providing us with a copy of “Sofia the First: Ready To Be A Princess” in order to facilitate my review.  All opinions and words are my own.

When Sofia’s Mom marries the King of Enchancia, King Roland, Sofia finds herself living every little girl’s dream: becoming a real Princess.  But she quickly finds out that being a Princess is more than tiaras and fancy dresses (contrary to the belief of her new stepsister Amber).  In Sofia the First: Ready To Be A Princess Sofia continues with her adventures and lessons, striving hard to be the best Princess she can.

Sofia the First: Ready to Be a Princess

Fortunately Sofia has lots of help.  Her non-royal friends from the village still come and visit her, helping to keep her grounded.  And her magic amulet lets her talk to, and be understood by, the animals of the kingdom, all of which are eager to help her out when possible. Continue reading »

For tailgating season as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias I made one of my favorite tailgating recipes, Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese.

Fall means different things to different people: changing leaves, pumpkin patches, cooler weather.  It means all those things to us, as well, but the biggest thing that fall represents around here is football.  Football is serious business here in Kentucky.  We have lots of college teams that we love to support, plus two or three NFL teams within relative driving distance.

Lots of football means lots of occasions to eat (something else Kentuckians take pretty seriously).  Whether it’s tailgating at the game or having friends and family over to watch the game, there are plenty of dips, lots of chili and casseroles, burgers and ribs, and tons of sweets.  I have a variety of different recipes that I like to rotate through, but one thing I almost always make is my homemade Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese.

Tailgating Recipes: Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese #shop #MealsTogether

Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese is great for tailgating because it combines that great flavor of wings with delicious, comforting mac & cheese all in one dish.  It’s easy to double, triple, half – whatever you need for the size of the crowd you’re serving.  It’s also fairly easy to cook.  The only downside to making it was that it took a little longer to assemble than I would have liked. I participated in a campaign to create Triscuit recipes on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Triscuit. I received products to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

I’ve always loved Triscuit crackers; they’re truly an iconic snack.  For me, it’s always been about the satisfying crunch when you bit into it.  I also like how a Triscuit holds up to whatever you decide to pile on it.

I thought the crackers were pretty perfect the way they are, but after a hundred years, there’s a new twist on Triscuits.  In addition to the traditional wheat, they’ve now added brown rice to the mix.  Taking the opportunity to tempt your taste buds one step further, sweet potatoes and red beans have been baked into some varieties, also.

With the new crackers in flavors like Sea Salt & Black Pepper, I started to think about what new toppers I might try.  When I was young the most adventurous I got was getting fancy with the canned cheese.  But I felt these crackers needed something a little special. Continue reading »
