I’m always excited to attend the Macy’s Culinary Council events that take place at the Oxmoor Center here in Louisville.  There’s usually one that takes place right before the Derby so I’m able to get recipe inspiration for our Kentucky Derby party from the chefs that participate.

Quick & Easy Pecan Sandies Shortbread Cookies Recipe

This year celebrity Chefs Rick Bayless and Anthony Lamas will be in attendance sharing their favorite recipes for race day.  Recipes like Rick Bayless’ Pecan Sandies Shortbread which I recently made and am sharing below.  Thank you to Everywhere Agency and Macy’s for sponsoring this post. After our last visit to the Bonefish Grill, Bubbles asked frequently when we could make a return visit.  She had absolutely loved the homemade bread they brought to the table, as well as the mac & cheese she ordered as her kids entree.

When I told her we had been invited back to try the Bonefish Grill winter menu she was definitely excited.  Hubs was happy, too, as we’ve always enjoyed the meals we’ve had there.  The service is great, the food is great, and the ambiance is really nice, too. Continue reading »

Growing up in Maine we didn’t have any local zoos.  We really didn’t even have any non-local zoos.  I had visited one in Canada and one in Florida while on vacation, but that was it.  So when I moved to Kentucky I was excited to find that it was just a quick trip to the Louisville Zoo.

Riding the carousel horses at the Louisville Zoo

Since then we have been to the Louisville Zoo on a number of occasions.  We have a list of “must do” items, like a ride on the carousel which only costs $2 to ride (it’s $3 for unlimited rides all day).  We then fill in the rest of the time with whatever animals are out that day, any shows that might be taking place, or new displays that are being rotated through like the LEGO creations we recently saw.
