Summer is a great time of year – expect for one thing.  There’s no football!  From the moment the seasons end until the day training starts, my husband and A2 are lamenting the loss of games on TV.  I don’t necessarily lament the break in the season (I do enjoy all the baseball games in the interim), but I do miss football, also.  As I’ve mentioned probably a hundred times, we’re BIG University of Kentucky fans and love attending the games at Commonwealth Stadium.

So what is a football fan to do when there’s no football on TV?  Play football video games, of course!

Here are just a few of our console games – notice all the football titles?

In addition to being football fans, we’re a family of gamers.  Whether it’s an online game, PC game, console game – or even board games! – you can often find at least one of us mashing a few buttons.  Right now we’ve been playing a lot of  EA Sports NCAA Football 12 in order to get ready for the release of NCAA Football 13! I have always enjoyed computer games ever since I can remember.  I first started playing them before the internet was even commercially available; I would buy the software, install, and play.  Most of those games were fairly involved and required a time commitment.

While I still enjoy those types of game, being a Mom is more than a full-time job and investing serious time in a game isn’t something I normally can do.  That’s why I love the casual online games that have become so popular in the last few years.  Pogo.com is a good site for those types of games.  They have a wide variety to choose from and all the ones I’ve tried are really fun. Until just a couple of weeks ago, I didn’t know that Ice Age 4: Continental Drift was due to hit theaters in July.  I enjoyed the first Ice Age movie quite a bit, so I’m excited to see this one.  They had an Ice Age marathon weekend this past weekend, showing all the previous Ice Age movies.  Bubbles is really into animals right now, so she was getting a kick out of them.

Ice Age 4: Continental Drift

I set them to DVR so we’d be able to watch them on Sunday.  Before we could watch any of them, though, I had some errands to run.  So Bubbles and I headed out to the stores.  We popped into Kohl’s and Target, then finished up our trip by picking up groceries.  Since it was Sunday, there were a few tasting stations set up.  One of the stations was sampling Florida orange juice. It has been exceedingly hot here for the last few weeks.  So hot that I keep forgetting that summer has just technically started; for as long as it’s been hot, it feels like fall should be right around the corner.  Today was a little cooler – only mid-80s and not so much humidity – but still relatively hot.

It's hot outside! Thermometer reads 85.

We had spent the morning doing some housework and then running errands which can zap your energy on a regular day.  By the time we returned home, Bubbles had fallen asleep and everyone was ready for some lunch and a break.  I wanted to do something a little special and thought that something cold and creamy would be perfect.  One of hubby’s favorite fast food restaurants is Wendy’s and they have those tasty Frosties!  They sounded like the perfect way to cool down on a Saturday afternoon.

Wendy's Frosty Key Chain - Free Mini Frosty!

Did you know Wendy’s has these cute Frosty key chains?  You pay a dollar for them and then every time you make a purchase and show it at Wendy’s you get a free mini Frosty!  I think it’s an excellent deal. Continue reading »

Growing up my family cooked out often.  My parents, brothers, Grandmother & Grandfather, Aunt, Uncle, and my Aunt & Uncle’s kids were always getting together for a holiday, birthday, celebration, or just because it was a nice day.  One thing that always sticks out in my mind about those gatherings was my Gram always ate last – and not just because she was always making sure everyone had enough on their plates.  She liked her burgers well-done – so well-done my Grandfather always teased her about eating charcoal – so hers took the longest to cook.

It wasn’t hard to tell her burger from the others, but over time people would request their burgers medium or well-done, with spices and sauces or without, or even a veggie or turkey burger versus beef.  That can get a little confusing for whomever is tending the grill, especially if they’re also trying to talk to the other guests and tend other entrees like chicken and hot dogs.
