Our bed sort of looks like a pillow factory exploded all over it.  Not that we use all of the pillows, we’ve just sort of acquired them over time as we search for “the” pillow to use.  The ones we use each night are the ones we’ve most been able to tolerate but “the” pillow has always alluded us, which is unfortunate because getting a decent night’s sleep when you have a baby or toddler is already a challenge.

Having recently had the opportunity, however, to try the new Fieldcrest Luxury Pillows featuring DACRON Memory Fiber I can honestly say my personal search for “the” pillow is over.  I laid my head on it before even slipping it into our pillow cases and it was so incredibly soft, thanks to the 300 thread count cotton sateen stripe cover.  The pillows themselves are hypoallergenic and machine-washable (a huge plus!).

From the very first night we slept on them I have experienced a noticeable improvement in the quality of my sleep.  It’s just so darn comfortable!  The pillows are large enough that they cradled my head with plenty of space on all sides.  You know those stress-relief squeeze balls that feel like they’re filled with a thick gel?  The pillow kind of reminded me of that.  When I woke up the next morning I could see where the pillow had formed itself to my sleep position.  It quickly poofed back up and filled the pillow case, though.

The pillows will launch exclusively at Target and Target.com this month.  When they do they will retail at less than half the price of most natural down pillows!  Soft, easy to clean, affordable, and – most importantly – comfortable.  Now if only we could find a mattress that’s as comfortable as these pillows…

I received pillows in order to facilitate my review.  No additional compensation was received and all opinions, as always, are 100% that of myself and my family.

We’ve slowly been working on updates, home improvement projects, and redecorating ever since we moved into our new house a couple of months ago.  One of the things we’ve been planning to get around to was the lighting for the living room.  The living room was equipped with a ceiling fan when we moved in, but it wasn’t really our taste.  In addition, not all of the bulbs worked, and the ones that did were blindingly bright.

I realize we could have just changed out the bulb and made it work for awhile, but – well, it seemed easier to just turn the light portion off at the time.  This meant supplementing with a couple of floor lamps, which also wasn’t ideal.  Last week, though, a challenge was extended to replace my current incandescent lighting sources with #GELighting that is energy-efficient.  I thought it would also be a good opportunity for us to get serious and update at least a couple of light fixtures, too, so my husband and I packed Bubbles up in the car, and we headed to Walmart to see what we could find. Before moving to Louisville, I hadn’t heard of Cost Plus World Market.  But during a shopping trip our first or second weekend in town, we stumbled across it in a new shopping area next to the malls.  They had tons of products from all over the world – including lots of art, which is what we were looking for during our first few visits.  This might sound silly, but at that time I also purchased a silicone spatula with a wooden handle for like $3 and it is still my go-to spatula all these years later.

I had wanted to do a little decorating for Memorial Day, but as there were just going to be a handful of us spending the day together (we had our big party on Sunday), I didn’t want to go all-out.  So I went online to search for some fun, yet low-key, Americana items that I could use for Memorial Day.  I wanted things that I could also keep and build on for the Fourth of July, when we usually have a big family gathering.  I saw a number of cute things on the Cost Plus World Market website, and since it’s nearly across the road from Babies ‘R Us (where I needed to go to get Bubbles a new swimsuit), I thought I would stop in and see what they had.

This weekend I had the pleasure of hosting a Cottonelle Roll Cover Party for myself, some friends, and their kids.  We got to check out the new Roll Covers designed by Jonathon Adler.  We also had the opportunity to repurpose those classic cardboard tubes into some fun new crafts!

There are so many different things you can do with cardboard tubes, but for our party, I decided we’d do two easy crafts.  The first one was finger puppets, and the second one was fairy party favors.  I thought it was perfect timing; they make great crafty Earth Day ideas, which happens to be this Sunday!   To stay in the reduce, reuse, recycle spirit, I wanted to try and use mostly – if not solely – supplies from around the house.

Easter Crafts – DIY Easter Peeps Centerpiece

When I saw the Peeps Topiary on Pinterest (from the post at The Hungry Mouse), I knew I had to try one.  We’re hosting Easter brunch/lunch at our house again this year, and I thought it would be a great centerpiece for our table.  Plus it just looked fun to make!  And other than coloring eggs, I don’t always see a lot of Easter crafts, so it was nice to find something a little different to try.

DIY Easter Centerpieces: Peeps Topiary

To start, you’ll need the following items:

  • Two 6″ Styrofoam balls
  • 1 wooden dowel or stake (12″ long; 1″ thick if using a stake, at least 1/2″ wide if using a dowel)
  • Pointed toothpicks (not the flat kind)
  • 6″-7″ clay flower pot
  • 8 packages of Peeps (5 of the 1st color, 2 of the 2nd color, 1 of the 3rd color)
  • jelly beans
If you would like, you can start by painting your clay pot.  I like the terra cotta look, but if I were to paint it, I might choose white so the colors of the Peeps are still the focal point.  It’s totally up to you, though.
To assemble the topiary, start by cutting the bottom 1/3 of one Styrofoam ball off, and use a knife to shave down the sides.  (You can discard the remaining piece of Styrofoam or save it for a future project.)  You want to be able to fit it snugly into the bottom of your clay pot. Continue reading »
