One of the first items that we purchased before Baby C. was born was her swing.  We did a lot of research online; I think I even sent out some tweets for recommendations.  After sifting through dozens of swings and hundreds of online reviews we ended up purchasing the Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle ‘n Swing.

I was a little taken aback by the price (this would not be the last time that feeling hit me) but since the reviews for it were so overwhelmingly positive and because my husband (who had the prior experience) said that a good swing is key. Continue reading »

Since Baby C. was born our house has become sort of overrun by baby things.  And by sort of I mean that she may actually have more furniture and “stuff” than I had in my first and second apartments combined.  I’ve been meaning to share the reviews of some of the items we’ve found most useful – and the ones most loved by her.

So over the next week or so I’ll be sharing “Baby C.’s Favorite Things” – a guide to some of the best products to consider if you’re expecting or looking to purchase a baby gift.  None of these posts are sponsored nor did I receive any of the items for free.  They’re just great products I think you’d love, too.

My husband is a big fan of any food that previously oinked.  Bacon, pork chops, pork medallions, pulled pork – you name it, he loves it.  After we first started dating I looked for a pork recipe that would be a little new to him and while watching a cooking show I came across Parmesan-Crusted Pork Chops.

For a side I went to The Pioneer Woman (if you don’t know her, you’ll want to; her blog and books are great and she’s about to have her own show on the Food Network) for inspiration – and found it in her Crash Hot Potatoes.  He loved both; the chops come out every now and then for a treat and the potatoes are requested by the whole family on a weekly basis.

I realized the other day that one of the things I enjoy most – cooking and baking – is one of the things that I rarely share.  So I’m going to change that!  Each Tuesday I’ll try and share (at least) one of the meals I’ve made that week.

My first recipe is one that hits three major themes that I think a lot of home cooks look for: tasty, easy and inexpensive.  My Mom would make this occasionally when I was a kid.  I wasn’t much of a fan of tomatoes back then so I didn’t really appreciate it at the time.  But one night after I was married I asked my husband if there was anything in particular he had been craving and he mentioned American Chop Suey – something his Mom had made, too.  So I called my Mom up to get the recipe.  I hadn’t made it in awhile but we had it for dinner last night.
