Before moving to Louisville, I hadn’t heard of Cost Plus World Market.  But during a shopping trip our first or second weekend in town, we stumbled across it in a new shopping area next to the malls.  They had tons of products from all over the world – including lots of art, which is what we were looking for during our first few visits.  This might sound silly, but at that time I also purchased a silicone spatula with a wooden handle for like $3 and it is still my go-to spatula all these years later.

I had wanted to do a little decorating for Memorial Day, but as there were just going to be a handful of us spending the day together (we had our big party on Sunday), I didn’t want to go all-out.  So I went online to search for some fun, yet low-key, Americana items that I could use for Memorial Day.  I wanted things that I could also keep and build on for the Fourth of July, when we usually have a big family gathering.  I saw a number of cute things on the Cost Plus World Market website, and since it’s nearly across the road from Babies ‘R Us (where I needed to go to get Bubbles a new swimsuit), I thought I would stop in and see what they had.

Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on May 5th, 1868 by General John Logan as a day of remembrance for those who have died in our Nation’s service.  I encourage you to observe a moment of silence for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.  Or if you’re feeling particularly patriotic, visit a cemetery and leave flowers on the headstone of a fallen soldier.

Disney’s The Secret World of Arrietty released on DVD today.  To celebrate I have a packet of fun activities and coloring sheets to share with you from Disney.  You can download them for free here.

The Secret World of Arrietty

The Secret World of Arrietty (AIR-ee-ett-ee) is based on the children’s book series The Borrowers. It’s the story of Arrietty, a tiny 14-year old who lives hidden with her parents in the recesses of a suburban garden home.  Her family generally keeps to themselves except for when Arrietty sneaks out of the floorboards to “borrow” scrap supplies like sugar cubes from her human hosts.  One evening, a young human boy named Shawn finds Arrietty and her family and a secret friendship blossoms.  If discovered, however, their relationship could drive the little family from the home and straight into danger.

I didn’t have the opportunity to see this in theaters, so I’m looking forward to picking up a copy this weekend to add to my Disney DVD/Blu-Ray library. If you already saw it, what are your thoughts?

You may remember that a couple of weeks ago Bubbles and I went shopping at Walmart in search of Jennie-O turkey products to kick off our Jennie-O Make The Switch challenge.  I shared with you at the time that we were working on a surprise Champions for Kids SIMPLE Service Project.  We were going to give up something unhealthy and/or unnecessary and put those savings towards making a donation that would provide meals for hungry children.

The project I had originally planned we were unable to complete due to some red tape.  Not to be deterred, I quickly moved us on to Plan B. Continue reading »

Recently myself and a group of fellow bloggers had the opportunity to attend an online screening of the movie Mighty Fine.

Mighty Fine Official Movie Poster

Prior to the screening invitation, I hadn’t heard much about this new movie, so I visited the Mighty Fine movie website to read up on it and found a great deal of information, including this little synopsis. Continue reading »
