My friend Emily and I always seemed to find something fun to get into during the summers. Bonfires, taking road trips to Old Orchard Beach, watching Grease while eating take out from the local diner. Even during our college years summers were our time for catching up and having adventures.
Summer stretches out longer here in Kentucky but back in Maine there’s not too much longer before kids go back to school and summer winds down. Both Emily and her husband work in the school system so their slightly more carefree days are about to end, too. Before that happens, though, I’m sending her a BFF gift – a beach tote full of summer must-haves to remind her of all our fun times! Continue reading »
We have been seriously enjoying the beautiful summer weather over the last few weeks. Pool time, playing in the backyard, trips to the park and zoo. We even managed to sneak in a couple of cookouts at my inlaws’ house. And of course a little vacation fun, with a couple of day trips and weekend overnights!
In between all of our events, we’ve made time for some tasty summer treats, too. Anything cool and refreshing has topped our list – from fresh fruit to popsicles to ice cream and everything in between. One recipe that seems to have pleased everyone especially are the Almond Joy Pudding Parfaits I’ve been making. Continue reading »

Some of my best summertime memories have included the water. I remember my mother joking with me that I was born a fish because it didn’t matter if it was swimming, fishing in a local stream, sitting on the beach, white water rafting, or out on the lake. I just wanted to be near water.
There wasn’t a lot of opportunity for the beach unless we were driving down to Old Orchard, which we did a few times each summer. But there was a lot more opportunity for spending time on a lake. My uncle’s family had a camp on a lake that we visited fairly regularly, and the family of one of my friends also had a camp on a different lake.
There was always a lot to do at camp – laying out in a hammock, fishing, cooking out. And, of course, getting out on the lake. I could stay out all day tubing, if given the chance. Continue reading »

We have been spending a lot of time outside this summer enjoying the beautiful weather. There’s been a little rain, especially towards the start of summer, but all-in-all it’s been really nice. Bubbles would live outside if we let her; she loves all kinds of outdoors activities. This summer we’ve splashed in the pool, gone for walks, played in the sandbox, washed the car in our bathing suits, and gone on bike rides. Too much sun exposure can cause problems down the road, though, so we’ve made sure to take some precautions and follow these five summer sun safety tips.
