Baby Safety Month:  Monitoring Your Child

For a very long time Bubbles wouldn’t sleep unless one of us were holding her, lying next to her, or within arm’s reach.  While it made for some long nights, it did make that parental urge to check your baby’s breathing much easier.  We didn’t have to keep getting up and checking another room; we just looked down.

Now that Bubbles is older and has her own toddler bed, she enjoys having her own special sleep place.  She still likes to fall asleep within sight of us (and still fights bedtime sleep like a professional boxer) but once asleep we move her to her bed and she’s content.  While it’s good to see her independence grow – and also to be able to actually do the dishes while she sleeps now – it did put us in need of a monitor.  The audio ones are nice and have been helpful for decades; I remember playing with the one my Mom had for my younger brothers.  But I really wanted to try one of the new video and audio combo ones.

Lean Cuisine 6-Packs Now at Sam's Club

In the weeks before she returned to college this fall, A1 became a huge fan of running.  She studied running online, talking sport with serious runners, and ran everyday.  She also talked about training to run a marathon.

That got me to thinking.  I’ve participated in a number of charitable “walks” over the years, but I’ve never participated in anything more serious than a fun-run.  In fact, looking back, I actually can’t recall doing much  real running.  I love a brisk walk – even jogging – but running just wasn’t anything anyone in my circle of friends did for fitness. Looking for a great new cookbook?

After a summer of unusually high temperatures – we’re talking multiple weeks of 100+ degree weather – the recent signs of fall have been a welcome treat.  We’ve even put on a hoodie a time or three over the past few days.  It’s also nice to be able to play outside more with Bubbles and not worry about melting.

Growing up in Maine, fall meant harvest.  It was hard work, and by dinnertime we were definitely hungry!  Casseroles always hit the spot as they were filling and warmed you up.  Now fall is a time for football, trips to the zoo, picking apples and pumpkins, and watching the leaves change color.  Much less stressful activities but casseroles still fit the bill for each of them.

Yummy casserole recipes from Gooseberry Patch - perfect for fall!

Are you a fan of MMA Elite?  Need a gift for someone that is?

MMA Elite Shirts Available At Walmart For Under $10 #ShopMMAElite

Growing up, I was really never into boxing.  I have two younger brothers; I saw all the fighting I needed, live and for free.  All of my brothers friends, though, would call them up and say “hey, there’s a fight tonight, want to come over and watch?”.  I thought maybe it was just one of those guy things I’d never understand.

When I was in college, however, people would hang out in the main lobbies where the big TVs were housed.  It was here that I was introduced to the sport of mixed martial arts fighting.  To me, this was different than just beating each other in the face (though there’s some of that) and I really enjoyed it.  I even ended up taking a semester of karate.
