I received a copy of The Little Mermaid Diamond Edition in order to facilitate my review.  All words and opinions are my own.

The Little Mermaid has been on my Top 5 Disney movie list pretty much all my life.  I can almost quote the entire thing, and I can definitely sing every word to every song.  You have to love whosits and whatsits.  Plus I could listen to Jodi Benson’s voice all day long.

I really thought it would be a movie that Bubbles would enjoy, too, but up until recently my only copy was an old VHS.  Crazy, I know.  But when we received The Little Mermaid Diamond Edition Blu-ray Combo pack and I was finally able to introduce her to the magic of mermaids and love at first sight (or speak, in this case).  Turns out I was also introducing my husband to the movie.  I could not believe that he had not seen The Little Mermaid, especially because he never mentioned anything when we watched the stage show at Hollywood Studios in Disney World.

While I do love Ariel, I have to say my favorite character is probably Sebastian.  I love that little crab.  He cares about Ariel so much and tries so hard to keep her out of trouble.  And when she finds herself in a pickle despite his efforts, then he jumps in with both claws to help her in any way he can – even if he’s at risk of the wrath of King Triton.  Thanks to Disney for providing us with a copy of “Sofia the First: Ready To Be A Princess” in order to facilitate my review.  All opinions and words are my own.

When Sofia’s Mom marries the King of Enchancia, King Roland, Sofia finds herself living every little girl’s dream: becoming a real Princess.  But she quickly finds out that being a Princess is more than tiaras and fancy dresses (contrary to the belief of her new stepsister Amber).  In Sofia the First: Ready To Be A Princess Sofia continues with her adventures and lessons, striving hard to be the best Princess she can.

Fortunately Sofia has lots of help.  Her non-royal friends from the village still come and visit her, helping to keep her grounded.  And her magic amulet lets her talk to, and be understood by, the animals of the kingdom, all of which are eager to help her out when possible. Continue reading »

I know it sounds like one of those “walked to school, uphill both ways, in the snow” kinds of stories, but compared to today’s television and entertainment options, what I grew up with was like living in the stone age.  We received exactly four – yes, four – stations on our TV.

We didn’t live in the woods; we actually lived right on the main road, had neighbors, and were only about 5 miles from “downtown”.  But for some reason the cable company stopped running cable about five houses away from us.  And that was before the days of satellites that mounted on the corner of your roof, so we were kind of out of luck.

Our four channels included two Canadian broadcast stations, which meant I got to watch a lot of the shows typically shown on the BBC.  I developed a real appreciation of their programming; dry British humor still can cause me to laugh and gasp for air today.  So when there’s nothing good on cable these days, we generally turn to the BBC or other British TV stations for a great new show to watch.

There is a lot of exciting entertainment news in the world of Disney movies.  New DVD and Blu-ray releases, plus some just-announced new films and animated tales.  I’m especially excited for the new live-action Cinderella!

The Pirate Fairy

New Disney Movies: Zarina and James from The Pirate Fairy

New Disney Movies: Tink, Zarina and the Fairies from The Pirate Fairy

Disney’s The Pirate Fairy will release next year, and this is one about which I’m really excited.  We love Tink and the fairies, we love Jake and the Pirates, so combining pirates and fairies into one movie is going to be awesome.  It centers around Zarina and James, and as I have more information to share, I will definitely do so! I received a copy of Lala-Oopsies A Sew Magical Tale in order to facilitate my review.  No additional compensation was received and all words and opinions are my own.

There are some interesting new additions to the world of Lalaoopsy!  If your kiddos are fans of the original, then they’re likely to enjoy this new adventure, also.  And if you’ve never heard of the rag doll-esque characters, that’s okay!  You don’t need to have watched the original Lalaloopsies to enjoy Lala-Oopsies: A Sew Magical Tale.

Lala-Oopsies A Sew Magical Tale The Movie - Now on DVD

This new DVD introduces a new group of princess ballerinas, fairies and mermaids – the Lala-Oopsies, based on the line of toys with the same name.  Some of the new characters include: Continue reading »
