Easter Crafts – DIY Easter Peeps Centerpiece

When I saw the Peeps Topiary on Pinterest (from the post at The Hungry Mouse), I knew I had to try one.  We’re hosting Easter brunch/lunch at our house again this year, and I thought it would be a great centerpiece for our table.  Plus it just looked fun to make!  And other than coloring eggs, I don’t always see a lot of Easter crafts, so it was nice to find something a little different to try.

DIY Easter Centerpieces: Peeps Topiary

To start, you’ll need the following items:

  • Two 6″ Styrofoam balls
  • 1 wooden dowel or stake (12″ long; 1″ thick if using a stake, at least 1/2″ wide if using a dowel)
  • Pointed toothpicks (not the flat kind)
  • 6″-7″ clay flower pot
  • 8 packages of Peeps (5 of the 1st color, 2 of the 2nd color, 1 of the 3rd color)
  • jelly beans
If you would like, you can start by painting your clay pot.  I like the terra cotta look, but if I were to paint it, I might choose white so the colors of the Peeps are still the focal point.  It’s totally up to you, though.
To assemble the topiary, start by cutting the bottom 1/3 of one Styrofoam ball off, and use a knife to shave down the sides.  (You can discard the remaining piece of Styrofoam or save it for a future project.)  You want to be able to fit it snugly into the bottom of your clay pot. 75 Easter Basket Filler Ideas

Filling Easter baskets is as fun for me as filling Christmas stockings – but it can also be a little stressful.  What do you buy to make each basket special for the recipient?  I’m always trying to come up with unique Easter basket filler ideas to keep up with the changing tastes of the kiddos as they reach different stages of their lives.  And at 20, 15, and 1, they’re not exactly all clamoring for the same things.

I do try and pick up a few things throughout the year as I see items they might like, and I also shop the after-Easter (and other holiday) sale at Target; last year I found quite a few things at 90% off.  Just remember to store the items somewhere you’ll remember them!  Nothing is worse than opening a package of Easter item scores when you’re putting up your Halloween decorations.

Easter Basket Filler Ideas – Ages 3 & Under

Since sometimes even the Easter Bunny needs a helping hand, here are some Easter basket filler ideas for a variety of ages.  Not all of the items are small enough to necessarily fit inside your basket (unless you’re using a really large basket), but I personally think that’s okay; we often had some wrapped gifts outside of our baskets when I was a kid. Easter Crafts via Pinterest

A quick look at my Pinterest boards and blog posts will tell you: I love holidays.  And so I get excited thinking about what crafts to make, recipes to cook, sweets to bake, etc. with each approaching holiday.  Because we have Easter just around the corner, this week Matter of Cents and I have choosen Easter Crafts as our weekly Pinterest Pin Me! theme.

I could easily have linked about 90 other things, and that’s what I love most about Pinterest.  It is a great repository for ideas of every nature; every time I visit the site, I find things I both want to recreate, and projects I want to tweak to my own tastes/needs.  Here are a few of my top picks.

One of my first experiences at BlissDom ’12 a couple of weeks ago was meeting some very wonderful folks from Hershey.  They were accompanied by a pal of theirs (and mine!).  It was…

(Sorry for the fuzzy picture, I must have been shaking with either excitement or a chocolate-rush.)

I stopped to chat with one of the Hershey team members and the Easter Bunny hopped right up with a basket full of yummy eggs – Cadbury Creme Eggs, to be exact!  I hadn’t been aware that Hershey now offered the Cadbury line of chocolates, so I received a little education along with my treat.
