Disney’s The BFG was my surprise hit of 2016. The story is a childhood favorite for many, so I expected the movie to be good. What I didn’t expect was for it to be great – which it was.
The visuals of the movie were especially amazing. One of Bubbles’ favorite parts of the movie was when Sophie and The BFG went to Dream Country to collect the dreams. It was absolutely magical to watch the dreams zip around while Sophie chased them with delight.
I won’t get too deep but I really liked that part because it was almost a metaphor for chasing your own dreams. They’re out there, you just have to be willing to go and grab them.
The dreams get stored in BFG Dream Jars. The BFG carefully labels each one and stores them, using the collection to create special dreams of his own that he shares with humans at night.
DIY BFG Dream Jars
Because Bubbles enjoyed that part of the movie so much, I thought it would be fun to make our own DIY BFG Dream Jars. They are super easy to make and cost under $2 per jar. I’ve included affiliate links to help you track down the same inexpensive items I used.
Supplies:
Glow sticks in desired colors (you can usually find a pack at the dollar store)
Glass jar with a removable lid (also found at the dollar store)
My printable BFG Dream Jar labels – ballerina, beach, jungle, blank 1 and blank 2
Tutorial:
- Put a few drops (very small amount) of water in the jar and shake it around to disperse.
- Cut the end off a glow stick and remove the interior color tube.
- Carefully open the tube and pour it into the jar.
- Replace the lid and shake the jar again to disperse the color.
- If the color is not intense enough for you, you can add a second glow stick. You can even mix colors.
- Label the jar with your favorite dream.
Easy peasy! I really love the splatter effect inside; they look like all the little dreams that were zipping around the tree in Dream County.
If you missed Disney’s The BFG in theaters you’re in luck! You can now get The BFG Blu-ray just in time for holiday gift giving. It’s a movie everyone in the family will love. We even took my husband’s aunt with us and she loved it, too.
