I love popcorn and chocolate, and enjoy combining them together into munch mix recipes whenever I have an excuse. I was organizing my baking “accessories” cabinet the other day, trying to find a more efficient way to store the sprinkles, frostings, and other accouterments. When I had everything pulled out, I realized I had some green candy melts and thought Bubbles and I could make a fun Leprechaun Munch Mix.

The best thing about a munch mix is you can customize it with whatever you have on hand. Since this was for St. Patrick’s Day, I used some of the mini chocolate candies I had. They’re a full rainbow of colors, which is great when you’re trying to find your pot of gold! Continue reading »

I’ve always loved board games. Sunday afternoons and many weeknight evenings in my childhood were spent playing any number of different games. As I got older, they would often turn into marathon games where the board would have to be placed aside and revisited later to determine the winner.

Now that I have a family of my own, board games are a tradition we continue. While Bubbles is a little young for many of them, she still loves to join us all, taking part where she can. And if the game is really above her skill level, she participates by rolling the die, spinning the wheel, handing us cards, or just cheering, “You can do it! So, yesterday I thought I might be losing my mind. More so than usual, I mean. I kept hearing this low thunder-like sound, but every time I heard it I turned to hubby and said, “Did you hear that?” and he looked at me like I was crazy.

It kept happening throughout the day, and finally I turned to everyone’s favorite source for news, Facebook. According to multiple comments I wasn’t the only one who was hearing them. While I was happy to know that it wasn’t in my head, I was then a little concerned with trying to figure out who was starting a war outside.

My husband thought it was probably some sort of training taking place at Fort Knox. Fort Knox is about an hour away, and we do occasionally hear some of the maneuvers from out there so it wasn’t outside the realm of possibility. I did wonder, however, if any of the base would be left standing after all the booms, if that was the case. Continue reading »

Anyone else ready for spring? I know I am. Actually, I think I was ready for spring roughly three days after Christmas.

Especially after this past week and weekend. We went from below-zero temps to in the 50s and 60s, and it was gorgeous. We celebrated Bubbles 3rd birthday, and one of her presents was a swing set for the backyard. We had fun swinging and sliding for a couple of days, and can’t wait for the weather to officially change so we can spend lots of time playing.

Right about now is when I also start to get spring fever in terms of cleaning and organizing the house, too. There’s just something that feels good about giving your home a refresh when the seasons change. But have you also thought about giving your body a refresh, too?
