This shop and my home office organization has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions and shouts of joy are mine alone. #BIGDeal #CollectiveBias

I started working from home in 2008, so I’ve had a home office for many years.  As a blogger, though, my home office organization needs have changed a great deal between now and then.  I have less need for filing cabinets and more need for, say, an area to take pictures and a place to store all my “stuff”.

Home Office Organization Ideas using inexpensive shelving units!

To say that my home office had started to get a little overrun is an understatement.  I love shopping for photography props so I had plastic tubs of dishes, linens, accessories, holiday items and more.  The main problem with this, though, is that half the time I would buy something and then promptly forget I owned it.  And if I did remember owning it, finding it was another challenge.

Furniture and home office organization ideas at Big Lots

When I was last in Big Lots shopping for the ingredients for my Pumpkin Whoopie Pies, I noticed there were a lot of great shelving options in the furniture section all at prices that were hard to beat.  So I suggested to hubby that maybe he could come with me and help me carry home a few things so I could get to work on some serious home office organization.

A 9-cube organizer is a great way to corral smaller items and display odds and ends. Great for home office organization.

There are so many options to choose from but when I saw the 9-cube organizers I knew I wanted some.  Originally I was going to get a few of them, but when I saw the bookcases that had some of the cube organizers built into the bottom of them, I decided to get some of those, too.

Bookshelves with built-in cubes at the bottom, plus a 9-cube organizer make a great "unit" for home office organization

In the end I chose two of the bookshelves and one of the 9-cube organizers.  After we assembled them (which was quick and much easier than I expected) I centered the 9-cube organizer on the back wall, then placed a bookshelf on either side butted up against it.  It makes it kind of look like it was designed as one big piece. I’m loving it!

The fabric bins I found at Big Lots are a great value - nice and deep, sturdy construction, and they come in lots of vivid colors

Big Lots also had lots of fabric bins to choose from to fill the cubes. I let Bubbles help me pick which ones to get and I like her choices!  They’re nice and deep, well-constructed and the colors are really vivid, so I consider them to be an excellent value.  They’re perfect for keeping all my small items neat and out of sight, but easy enough to pull out to find what I need quickly.

These shelves are full of my bloggy stuff, but they’d be perfect for any home office organization.  Add your books, some framed photos, and your office supplies and you’ll have your own beautiful setup!

What home office organization supplies will you choose at Big Lots?

  1. I need that to organize my office too! It’s so difficult to keep everything nice and neat, I’m just NOT good at it! At ALL. #client
