A few weeks ago I suggested to my Mom that it would be great if they could come out this year for the holidays. We bounced back and forth between Christmas and Thanksgiving, and due to work schedules we settled on Thanksgiving. By choosing to come in November, it meant that my brother Jeff was also able to come, an extra treat!
As soon as I knew they were coming, I started working on prepping the guest room. Just because it was my family coming doesn’t mean I didn’t want to make their visit special for them. So one of the items on my to-do list was to make a DIY guest welcome basket.
DIY Guest Welcome Basket
I tried to think of the things that people commonly forget when traveling, little treats that I knew my parents and brother would like, refreshments, and more. I also added in a few things like lip balm and hand lotion, because I know how drying the air on a plane can be, and wrinkle-release spray to help freshen up the clothes I knew would be crammed into my brother’s backpack. My final list included:
- Magazines
- Hand lotion
- Bottled water
- Candy and chocolate
- Socks
- Wrinkle-release spray
- Holiday shower gel
- Toothpaste
- Toothbrush
- NESCAFÉ® Tasters Choice® House Blend
- NESTLÉ® COFFEE-MATE® Peppermint Mocha Liquid Coffee Creamer
Now, the coffee creamer I of course kept in the fridge, but I did let the know where they could find it. Sharing a morning coffee with my Mom is something I always enjoyed doing when I lived back home and I thought it would be nice if we could continue the tradition while they were visiting. And now that my brother has become a big coffee drinker, too, so I knew he would appreciate it.
I was happy to find the Peppermint Mocha flavor of the Coffee-Mate at Walmart. Seasonal flavors are my favorite but they can sometimes be hard to find here (if you can’t find yours in your “regular” spot, check the milk case as that’s where they tend to store ours). As we were celebrating Christmas early with my family while they were here, I thought it was the perfect choice for entertaining during their visit.
This is such a thoughtful and great idea. We might be having guest for the holidays, so I will keep this in mind.
This is perfect! I need to remember to do this the next time my in laws stay with us!
That’s definitely a great idea. I love that you thought about making them feel at home.
I’ve never put together a food/coffee one for guests, but we regularly make ‘spa’ baskets and put it in the guest bedroom.
That is such a great idea. That would make anyone feel comfortable.
I just bought this creamer recently, love it in my iced coffee! I make my coffee hot and toss in a few chocolate chips in the bottom let them melt, add sugar and this creamer this amazing!
I love this idea, it is a great way to make guests feel special and wanted. That peppermint creamer is delicious, I wish you could get it year round!
This is such a wonderful idea. We usually travel for the holidays, so I think I’ll convert this to a host/hostess basket. Thanks!
We often have houseguests and I never really thought about leaving out some niceties for them. This is a great idea!! I could use some of the product samples from my Birchbox to make it free.
I don’t think I would add anything. It looks like you have everything anyone would need right there! Love it!
We usually do a spa-type welcome basket for our guests and put it in the guest bedroom. That way they think they’re at a spa (and maybe they’ll tip!!!).
I’d probably bake up some biscotti or scones to go with the coffee for a morning pick me up. Love these ideas! #client
