Thank you to PBS KIDS for providing us with DVD copies of Dinosaur Train and Super Why! to view. All words and opinions are 100% my own.
Just because it’s summer break, that doesn’t mean that learning stops. PBS KIDS want to make continued learning easy for you and your family this summer. To help with that, they have made available four new DVDs starring some of their most well-loved characters.
In Dinosaur Train: Nature Trackers we were able to join Buddy, Tiny, Shiny, and Don as they traveled on the Dinosaur Train and learned about everything from stargazing to gardening. If your child loves everything related to the outdoors they will love this DVD.
Our favorite episode was “Shiny and Snakes”. Bubbles is really into bugs and creatures right now, so joining the Nature Trackers along with Conductor as they learned all about snakes (and not being afraid of them) was a lot of fun. I also really enjoyed the “Stargazing on the Night Train” episode. Stars have always fascinated me, and it was fun to hear about what constellations might exist in the dinosaur world. The full episode list includes:
- Stargazing on the Night Train/Get Into Nature!
- Shiny and Snakes/Tiny Loves Flowers
- Buddy Explores the Tyrannosaurs/Rainy Day Fight
- That’s Not a Dinosaur/Tiny’s Garden

The Dinosaur Train DVD includes a free Nature Trackers Club coloring book and guide. I love when DVDs include these companion items. It also has an interactive “How Big?” game and additional PDF coloring pages and activities that can be printed out. This DVD will give the kiddos plenty of educational fun, for sure.
Super Why!: Hansel & Gretel: A Healthy Adventure is another new DVD. Bubbles has been a big fan of Super Why! and we watch it regularly. The music is fun, the lessons are great, and Bubbles is trying very hard to learn to spell words so their word adventures are right up her alley.
A Healthy Adventure includes two episodes; “Hansel and Gretel: A Healthy Adventure” along with “King Eddie Who Loved Spaghetti”. In the title episode Red really wants to join her friends and play, but after eating a bunch of candy she has no energy. After a visit to the Hansel and Gretel story where the meet a grouchy witch, they learn about the importance of nutrition.

In the second episode the super readers meet King Eddie. King Eddie loves spaghetti – and not much else! Unfortunately, when all you eat is one food, you don’t get the nutritional benefits of a varied diet. So the friends help King Eddie try new foods, and Whyatt learns a lesson his parents had been trying to teach him.
This DVD also has printable PDF coloring pages and interactive games. In addition it has some music videos, too. For my little dancer and singer these were a nice extra.
