This week Matter of Cents and I chose the theme of “series finales” to share with you all.  There are a number of shows that either recently concluded their seasons, or will be doing so in the next week or so.  Here are a few I wanted to share with you all.

Unforgettable

Unforgettable

Unforgettable is about a woman (Poppy Montgomery whom I think is awesome) who can remember every detail of the past, starting just after her sister was murdered.  If you missed this show this season, you missed out; we loved it.  But sadly, you won’t be able to get caught up in time for next season – because there isn’t a next season.  For some unfathomable reason, this week CBS announced they were canceling Unforgettable.  WHY, oh WHY?  It was up for a 2012 People’s Choice Award for Best Drama, so it’s not like people didn’t like it.  We’ll never know what happened to her sister.  Sigh.

Person of Interest

Person of Interest

Person of Interest's Jim Caviezel

This is another new show this year that we found and love.  The season finale airs tonight and since I know there will be more episodes – it was picked up for another season already – I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode.  Person of Interest comes to you from one of the creative minds behind LOST, so, yeah, we expected it to be good.  The guy who played Benjamin Linus (Michael Emerson) returns as a man who created a machine that can spy on everyone 24/7.  It uses that information to detect national security threats, but he found that it also showed every day people in danger.  The government wasn’t interested in that part, so he “hired” an off-the-grid former CIA agent (Jim Caviezel, swoon!) to help him save those in danger and take out the bad guys.  This show is a must-see.

Alcatraz

Alcatraz

This show’s season finale was a few weeks ago, but I’m including it because I wanted to talk about it.  Also from one of the lovely minds behind LOST, this show had SUCH potential.  First of all, it had Hugo (Jorge Garcia)!  It had Sam Neill (who, for some reason, I love)!  It had a great premise: years ago the entire population at Alcatraz prison just up and disappeared. Until – decades later – they started showing up, one at a time, not having aged a day.  The first couple of episodes were great.  And then it was just more of the same, with new faces plastered into each episode.  It was canceled, and while I’m not surprised, I am a little disappointed, because this should have been a great show.  But it wasn’t.

And a finale that will be remembered through television history, LOST.  Perhaps the best television series of all time.
