Baby’s First Christmas is always an exciting milestone. Bubbles was ten months old for her first Christmas and treated us to the gift of her first steps on Christmas Day. So I know that my brother and Abby must both be really looking forward to celebrating their first Christmas as parents.
We aren’t going to make it to Maine this year for Christmas (again. sadly) but I still wanted to do something a little special for Jayce. A few years ago I made Sam & Abby a DIY Our First Christmas ornament using their wedding invitation. I thought it might be fun to continue the ornament tradition and I decided to DIY a Baby’s First Christmas Ornament.
DIY Baby’s First Christmas Ornament
Supplies
- Clear glass or plastic round ornament
- Photo
- Paint pen
- Scissors
- Colorful shred
- Coordinating ribbon
Instructions
- Remove the topper for the ornament and set aside.
- Trim the photo so it will fit.
- Gently curl the photo and insert into ornament.
- Use your finger or a straw to settle the photo into place.
- Fill the space behind the ornament with paper shred
- Using the paint pen, personalize the ornament as desired. I added the baby’s name and date of birth.
- Replace the topper. Slide the ribbon through the hanging loop and tie a bow.
It’s really easy to personalize your Baby’s First Christmas ornament. Blue is a popular color to decorate with Christmas and the photo I used had blue in it, so that’s what I went with. You could easily do more a more traditional red and green combo if you prefer, or even something with a little more bling like silver or gold.
After the ornament I decided I wanted to put together a small Christmas stocking for Jayce, too. I hit the baby aisle at Big Lots and picked up a few things I thought he would like. I got the following all for under $20, which I thought was a great value considering the name brands I found.
- Bath set with washcloths and toy
- Teether
- Truck
- 2-pack of pacifiers
- Rattle
- Soft, fuzzy blue Christmas stocking
If you’re like me and you’re never entirely sure what all will fit in the stocking, here’s my tip for you. I lay the stocking in my shopping cart (like above) and as I select items I lay them out on top of the stocking so I know exactly what will work.
Once the stocking was full it looked a tiny bit plain so I grabbed another paint pen and wrote Jayce’s name across the cuff of the stocking. I thought it added a nice little finishing touch.
I love personalized gifts so making the Baby’s First Christmas ornament and stocking was really fun for me. I hope Jayce (and Sam & Abby) love them all, too!
That’s adorable, Liza! Jayce sure is a lucky boy! He’s such a cutie, isn’t he?! Also, that is awesome that your daughter took her first steps on her first Christmas! What an amazing memory to have.
Jayce is so adorable, yes! I can’t wait to finally get to snuggle him.
This ornament idea is too cute – this could work for new parents, grandparents and other relatives.
Thank you, Yona! Yes, lots of different relatives would love to get one of these, I’m sure.
What a sweet ornament, and a great idea! #client
