I’ve always found technology exciting and I love finding new ways to incorporate it into our life.  So I was really excited when we had the opportunity to add the Philips hue personal wireless lighting system into our home.  And let me just tell you, once you have wireless lighting in your home, you’re never going to want to be without it again.

When I first read about the Philips hue system I thought it would be great as a home security feature.  Normally someone is at home, but if we all happen to be gone at once, we could set timers on the lights and everything would be well-lit whether we were actually there or not.  And it is great for that – and so much more.

The Philips Hue Starter Kit contains three LED bulbs and the Hue bridge

Once you pick up your Philips hue starter kit (which includes three LED bulbs and a bridge) you’re going to want to download an app for it.  This is where you can set timers, create “groupings” for your bulbs, and start getting creative with colors.  And since you can control each bulb separately and there are 16 million color settings, the possibilities are truly endless.

We connected the Philips hue starter kit to our new Netgear Nighthawk DST router and adapter. This is a Best Buy exclusive and comes with a year’s worth of Geek Squad support via web or phone and includes one DST – Dead Spot Terminator – to eliminate your Wi-Fi dead zones. It’s a high performance router that can support 10+ devices that you can prioritize for lag-free gaming, streaming videos and music and more.

The Philips hue Go is a portable wireless lighting system that can be controlled either directly on the unit or via the app on your phone and can run off a battery that holds up to 3 hours worth of charge

There’s also the Philips hue Go which is a portable multicolor smart LED personal wireless lighting system.  The rechargeable battery lasts for up to 3 hours and you can control it via the button on the device or via the app if you have the bridge.  This has been great for Bubbles’ bedroom as she can pick which shade of light most suits her mood that day.

A wireless home lighting system isn’t something you might think you really need.  But when it’s cold and you’re already in your warm bed when you realize you forgot to turn off one of the lights, being able to reach over and tap the button on your app to shut them off is really, really nice.  As is turning your living room in to fan central with your teams colors on game day, or setting the mood for holidays or other special events.

What way will you use the Philips hue?
