This CASHFLOW game post is sponsored by Rich Dad. All words and opinions are my own.
I think one of the most important things we can teach our kids before they leave our homes is money management and how to be financially responsible. When I left home to attend college I ran into a number of kids who clearly didn’t have these lessons growing up and it was a little painful watching some of the decisions they made. (College tip: running up a pizza tab on your credit cards is probably not smart.)
I had lessons both at home and in school. In the fifth grade we were given “checkbooks” that we managed for the entire year, had ways to earn “income” and were given the opportunity to write out “checks” for prizes and other items. It made learning the concept a lot of fun, which is really helpful for a topic like money.
Now there’s a more grown-up way to have fun while learning money management and that’s the CASHFLOW board game by Rich Dad. Having read some of the Rich Dad books in the past I was really interested the CASHFLOW game. And having now had the chance to play it I wasn’t disappointed at all!
Much to Bubbles’ chagrin the CASHFLOW game is designed for ages 14+. It takes roughly an hour or so to play (maybe a little longer the first time as you’re learning it) and can accommodate anywhere from 2 to 6 players. It’s kind of like a cross between Monopoly and The Game of Life – it has the buying & selling fun of the former and even more reality than the latter.
Everyone in the game is given a job that has a set income as well as the necessary expenses. Along the way you may have to shell out for “Dodads” – those small expenditures in life that are either unavoidable or really not needed. There are also opportunity for buying, selling and trading stocks to help your bottom line with the ultimate goal of getting out of the Rat Race (phase 1 of the game played on the inner circle) and make it into the Fast Track to increase your starting income by $50k.
Hubby and I had fun playing it through on our own, but I really can’t wait for Ashley to get home for Christmas when she, Austin, and hubby and I can sit down and play together. We’ve always enjoyed family game night and the CASHFLOW game is a perfect addition to that. If you’d like to give it a try use promo code CASHFLOW when ordering to save 10%!
