We’re a little bit over the cold weather here at our house. It’s definitely had us missing Florida and the “brisk” 40s-50s we usually experienced in the winter down there. I’ve been daydreaming about us just tossing our things in a suitcase and taking off on a road trip in search of the sun and possibly a little sand.
Honestly, though, if we were going to take a road trip right now, it would probably be north. I know, right into more cold, what’s up with that? But it’s actually been warmer in Northern Maine than it has been here some days, and at least they have the right type and amount of snow to both play in and ski on.
When we road trip, we like to rent a vehicle to drive. It’s nice not to add the wear and tear to our own car, and we get pick out an SUV that has plenty of space for toting around all the supplies needed for a family that includes a toddler. New England Road Trip
We also love to stop in Boston; it’s one of my favorite cities in the country. When we visit the Aquarium, Museum of Science, Faneuil Hall, and a Red Sox game are high on our list of must-dos. I’m also a little partial to the Museum of Fine Arts, but it would be a little tedious for Bubbles at this age.
Once in Maine we like to swing by Acadia National Park. I’ve loved hiking the trails there since I was a kid, and watching and listening to the water come in at Thunder Hole. Of course, popping over to Bar Harbor for a lobster roll and handmade ice cream is always a treat, too.
I’m pretty good at reading a map, but we do usually add a GPS to our rental (and qualifying rentals earn double points!). It gives me a little peace of mind and through March 31, 2014 also give us 50 bonus points as part of Plus Your Points. I can even send a Tweet while we’re stopped at a gas station and earn an extra 20 points.
Lots of things – even referring friends – can put us closer towards free rental days. And because the points have no blackout dates, our road trip fun will be on our schedule, not someone else’s.

I love driving up Cadillac Mountain, the amazing beach at Echo Lake in Southwest Harbor, beautiful ocean views at Schoodic Point in Winter Harbor, Baxter State Park, near Millinocket, which has lots of great views of Mt. Katahdin, ice cream at The Old Dutch Treat in Trenton is a must, Santa’s Village and Storyland in New Hampshire. Those are just a few of my faves!

I live right outside of Boston, but when we want to road trip it, we head to Provincetown (on the cape) or the White Mountains of NH. There is so much to do in this part of the country
I’ve never been past the DC area on a road trip. I’d love to eventually drive all the way up to Niagara Falls and then back.
I haven’t done a lot of New England road trips yet, but I do love Boston. We were just there last summer, and the whole family had a blast!
I love that park I can see myself taking pictures there. I have never been to Maine but I have been to Boston the food….so good.
OH I absolutely LOVE travelling!! It’s pretty much what all our extra income gets saved for!! Next summer we’re heading to Oregon for a week and need to rent a car so I’ll have to check out Enterprises prices. Acadia National Park looks beautiful! Just my kind of place!
I have never taken a road trip to New England however I did travel from NYC to Boston via the Amtrak Acela and the views were breathtaking. I would definitely like to drive it one day. New England is an American Beauty.
I absolutely love coastal New Hampshire. I once walked the coastline from where Massachusetts and New Hampshire meet to as far north as I could walk in New Hampshire (I could see the Maine coast across the water). It was a 17+ mile walk but absolutely beautiful. If you get a chance, I’d visit Wentworth by the Sea and The Cliff House while in New England!
I love walking around Boston. So much history there.
I love Maine, but I havent been there for years. It’s a pretty place to see and cheap fish.
And really inexpensive lobster, too!
Now you have me eager to take a return trip to Acadia National Park. It’s one of my favorite travel memories as a child!

These are such great destinations! My husband and I really have been wanting to take a New England Road Trip.
I love to travel and New England is one destination I have never been to. My mom and step father did go to Boston last year and said that it was incredible. There was so much to do!

There are so many great road trips to plan here in the the Northeast! That’s why I love living so close to all these beautiful places. Acadia National Park is a must-see, for sure. Hoping to plan a weekend trip to the Montpelier, VT area to visit my sister soon!

It was warmed in Anchorage Alaska this week than it was here in ATL. Being a Southerner who has lived up north, I’ve had my share of snow, and NO thank you!! We usually take Enterprise when we rent because they pick you up!
