I’m getting old.
Phew. Now that I got that out there, I feel a little bit better. Oh, wait – no I don’t.
In the grand scheme of things, I realize that 35 is really not that old. But I’m starting to notice tiny physical signs that I’m not 18 any more. Like a random white hair growing where it doesn’t belong (and how does it get that long before you notice it?). A random hair would be bad enough, but a white one? What’s up with that? And tiny, tiny lines starting to feather around the corners of my eyes thanks to many days spent squinting in the sun without sunglasses (I chose instead to use them as a headband).
These little nudges were a good wake-up call that it might be time to start focusing on skin care products with some anti-aging properties. I’m certainly no stranger to skin care products in general. I tend to try them as soon as I see them advertised. But up until now I hadn’t paid much attention to amino peptides, Vitamin E, or serums. But while I believe in growing old graciously, I’m not sure that I believe in growing old gracefully – not when technology has non-surgical options that grant visible results.
Fortunately Olay is on my side in this journey. For the past couple of weeks I’ve been using their Regenerist line, which includes the new Micro-Sculpting Cream and the Eye & Lash Duo. The products in the Regenerist line incorporate anti-aging ingredients such as Vitamin E, pro-vitamin B5, green tea extract, allantoin, and glycerin. The Duo has both an Eye Cream and a Lash Serum – the first of such products for Olay. Together the Duo is designed to treat lids, lines and lashes for a total eye transformation. And the Micro-Sculpting Cream has two new anti-aging ingredients to penetrate skin 10 layers deep.
I opened the Duo first as the tiny no-sunglasses-for-my-squinty-eyes lines do actually annoy me a bit. The Lash Serum did what it said, which is to instantly make my lashes look thicker. I don’t exactly have lashes that people covet so I appreciated the extra volume. And while I haven’t noticed a significant reduction in those fine lines yet, the Eye Cream has made my eyes feel more hydrated. I’ve also noticed a bit of brightening, too. I hope with continued use to at least have the eyes of a 30-year-old that wore appropriate eye care in the sun.
The Micro-Sculpting Cream takes around 28 days for a noticeable reversal in the look of up to 10 years of wrinkles. But in the first day or two I was able to tell my skin, like the skin around my eyes, felt more hydrated. When your skin is hydrated it looks brighter and lines start to fill in a bit. Hello, younger self. And the cream smells really good, as well. That was great because a lot of skin care products have strong, unpleasant odors, or smell like sunscreen (which while important, doesn’t usually smell that great).
Both products are items that I’ll not only be using until I scrape the last little bit out of the jar, but I’ll also be purchasing on my own. I want to do what I can to slow the signs of aging as well as reverse the ones that have already crept up on me.
