This will be my 1st year in a long time where I’ve had to buy very many toys.  Not that she’ll remember very much of it – if any – but it is Baby C’s first Christmas and we will want to get her at least a few new toys to play with since she’s just starting to get into the age where she really enjoys them.
In recent years past I generally have a cousin or friend with a child who is still appropriately-aged for toys that I may buy for and I always try and buy at least a few for Toys for Tots or an Angel tree.  But with having more toys on my list this year than normal I (of course) am looking for deals to get the most toys-with-flashing-lights-and-faintly-annoying-circular-loop-music for my money.  Oh, and books.  She loves reading with us.

Anyway, each year, twice a year, Target has a huge toy clearance event where toys are marked down to 75% off.  It happens once in January to clear out the leftover Christmas stock, and it happens again in July to prepare for the new Christmas stock.
If you’re a regular Target shopper you may have noticed toys being discounted down the 15%, 30% and 50% path.  Well, historically the toys have then been marked to 75% the last Thursday of July.  This year – if they follow past tradition (and the sales girl at my Target implied it would be the case) – that would make it this Thursday, July 28th.
There is a ride-on Winnie the Pooh toy that I noticed last time I was there that was part of the clearance and I’d like to get for Baby C as she loooooves Winnie the Pooh right now.  Then I’d just like to look things over to see if anything else jumps out at me for either her or for A1’s Little (she’s a Big Sister).
Have any of you scored nice deals in the past?  Anyone planning to go this year?  Let us know what you’ve found or what you’re looking for in the comments.  And feel free to stop over at the Shopping for Savings BlogFrog Community to discuss it more, too!

First, let me wish you all a safe New Year’s Eve and a very Happy 2011!  I am very excited for all the changes and new experiences that this year will bring.  Not only will we be having our baby very soon, the section of the company that I work for is changing hands and while I’ll be doing the same job with the same people, we’ll be employees for a new company.  I also hope to have more and exciting things to share with you all here.  Another big piece of news for our family for 2011?  My youngest brother is getting married in October!  I am very excited for him – he is marrying a great girl that we all love and are very happy that she’s going to be part of our family.

Now, for the Target clearance: We headed over to Super Target with the plan to buy one of those gift wrap storage containers they have on sale this week (just $6).  I was extremely surprised to find that they still had a LOT of Christmas stuff and it was all 75% off.  I got a few rolls of wrapping paper for $0.62 each (Disney Princesses, Tinker Bell, Winnie the Pooh – since we’ll have the little one next year, I thought they’d be great. They also had some plain red in the Christmas section that were $0.62, which are perfect for Valentine’s and year-round), a couple of 40 ct. bags of bows for about $0.40, two boxes of Pillsbury Holiday Funfetti cake mix for $0.41 each, and a big multi-pack of sprinkles/colored sugar for just about $1.50.  We didn’t end up getting the storage container because the wrapping paper was taller than the container, but we’re just going to tuck them into a box for now.  They also had lots of ornaments, gift bags, candy, cookie kits and LOTS more, so if you’re looking for a deal and you have a Super Target near by, it could be worth it to swing by :)
