The Little Mermaid

I received a copy of The Little Mermaid 2 and Ariel’s Beginning 2-Movie Collection in order to facilitate my review. No additional compensation was received and all thoughts and words are my own.

The Little Mermaid has always been one of my favorite Disney movies. The songs, the colors, the under the sea adventure, the romance – it’s the whole package. I did always wonder, though, about the origins of the kingdom of Atlantica and what Ariel and all her siblings were like when they were little.

I also wondered about what happened with Ariel and Eric after they were married. Was it truly a happily ever after story? Did Ariel regret giving up her fins and family for a set of legs and love?

The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning and The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea 2-Movie Collection

To answer those questions, a few years ago Disney released both Ariel’s Beginning and The Little Mermaid 2. I didn’t have the chance at the time to pick up either copy but now that both are available in one collection, I knew it was time to add them to my library. Lots of great kids movies (and some for adults, too!) in this week’s weekly entertainment roundup. I have to say, the announcement of Second Screen Live for The Nightmare Before Christmas has us strongly considering a quick road trip to Tennessee. It’s one of my favorite movies from when I was in high school and I think it would be cool to see it in conjunction with that technology.

I received a copy of The Little Mermaid Diamond Edition in order to facilitate my review. All words and opinions are my own.

The Little Mermaid has been on my Top 5 Disney movie list pretty much all my life. I can almost quote the entire thing, and I can definitely sing every word to every song. You have to love whosits and whatsits. Plus I could listen to Jodi Benson’s voice all day long.

I really thought it would be a movie that Bubbles would enjoy, too, but up until recently my only copy was an old VHS. Crazy, I know. But when we received The Little Mermaid Diamond Edition Blu-ray Combo pack and I was finally able to introduce her to the magic of mermaids and love at first sight (or speak, in this case). Turns out I was also introducing my husband to the movie. I could not believe that he had not seen The Little Mermaid, especially because he never mentioned anything when we watched the stage show at Hollywood Studios in Disney World.

While I do love Ariel, I have to say my favorite character is probably Sebastian. I love that little crab. He cares about Ariel so much and tries so hard to keep her out of trouble. And when she finds herself in a pickle despite his efforts, then he jumps in with both claws to help her in any way he can – even if he’s at risk of the wrath of King Triton. Continue reading »
