This post on saving on my vegetable soup recipe with the Walmart Savings Catcher is sponsored by Crowdtap. All thoughts and words are my own. #WMTSavingsCatcher

We’ve had a pretty serious cold snap here the last few days, and it’s been frequently accompanied by rain.  It’s the kind of weather that makes you want to curl up on the couch with a blanket and a bowl of something hot.  Something like vegetable soup.

Vegetable Soup Recipe #WMTSavingsCatcher

My husband is a fan of soups in general and requests them frequently.  The other day as I was heading out the door to pick up groceries, my husband suggested that I also get the things I’d need to make vegetable soup.  I took a mental inventory of what we already had in the pantry and fridge, then added the rest of the ingredients to the shopping app on my phone. If you would have asked me a few years ago if I would have been getting my house ready for spring and summer by using my cell phone, I would have probably laughed.  I’ve always been pretty attached to my phone, but back when they first became common, I never considered that at some point they’d basically be mini computers with lots of fun extras.  Fun extras like apps!

I was recently introduced to 5 free apps that can make getting your home and personal life organized during spring cleaning a snap.  They can also help you save some money while you’re at it!  Check them out below. Continue reading »

Was saving money one of your resolutions for this year?  It may be one of your perennial resolutions if you’re anything like me.  Some years I’m more successful than others, but I love learning about new ways to try and meet my goals.

Last year Isra at The Frugalette shared a 52 week savings challenge and I knew I wanted to give it a try for myself.  The premise is pretty simple: each week you add the number of dollars equal to the week of the year.  So during week one, you add a dollar.  During week 17, you add $17.  And so on.

52 Week Savings Challenge Chart

I have an online savings account; previously it was an Electric Orange account, but now they’ve partnered with Capital One and they’re called 360 Savings.  What I love about an online savings account is that while you still have access to the money, it’s not instantaneous.  So you have to think about it before you make a withdrawal. This is a partnered post. All words and opinions are my own.

I’m kind of a fan of getting a good deal on something especially when it doesn’t cost me anything extra.  That’s why I love the Kroger Fuel Points Program.  I get significant savings on my gas bill just by doing my regular grocery shopping.

The program works like this:

  1. Shop at Kroger.
  2. When you’re checking out, have the cashier scan your free Kroger Plus Card (like a loyalty card).  You can also scan it yourself if you use the self check-out.
  3. For every $1 that you spend on groceries, you receive one point.  Gift cards (with a few exclusions) give you 2 points per dollar.
  4. Once you’ve reached 100 Fuel Points you’ll receive 10 cents off per gallon at the Kroger fuel pump and at participating Shell stations.
  5. Ready to buy gas?  Simply scan your Plus Card at the pump and it will ask you if you’d like to use your discount.  Depending on how many Fuel Points you have, you can save up to $1 per gallon at a Kroger pump (10 cent max at a Shell station).
