Christmas cards are one of my favorite parts of the holiday.  It’s great to hear from friends and family that I don’t get to see frequently.  I love when everyone sends photo cards, especially, as I truly get to see those folks.  I like to display them, but sometimes it can get a little tricky to figure out how to do it without looking like you’ve opened a card shop.

In the past I’ve tried running wide ribbon down the center of a door or along door casings and attaching the cards to them.  It looked okay, but last year Bubbles was very interested in the ribbons and many of the cards ended up being pulled off repeatedly.  I thought about setting them on top of the entertainment center but we usually do family Christmas photos and a few decorations up there – no room for cards.

Suggestions for Valentine Crafts, Recipes, and DIY

Valentine’s Day is this week but there is still plenty of time to make or bake some treats if you’re feeling crafty.  I hope to have one more craft tutorial for an easy gift and one more quick recipe for you before the big day.  Until then I wanted to share some of my favorite Valentine’s ideas from both Pinterest and some fellow bloggers.

(Really, what did we do for inspiration before Pinterest?)

Toddler Birthday Party Ideas

Toddler Birthday Party Ideas: part of the Turning 2 Toddler Birthday Celebration

Bubbles is turning two this month and I can’t believe it.  It honestly seems like the other day that she fit in the nook of my arm; now when I pick her up and we’re eye-to-eye, her toes dangle against my knees.  Every day she surprises us with a new phrase. activity, item, or look.  This month in the Turning 2 Toddler Birthday Celebration I’ll be sharing a lot of great things that she loves that I think other toddlers will enjoy.

Before the month gets too far away from me I’m trying to decide on a birthday theme for her party.  Pocoyo is favorite character but the merchandise for it is almost non-existent and I haven’t been able to find any party supplies.  So we’re looking at other options.  She takes after her Mama and is a little Disney girl which makes something Disney a top choice.  She loves Minnie Mouse, the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show, Tinker Bell, and the princesses (she can name them all, with Rapunzel and Ariel being two of her favorites).  Here are some of the cute party ideas for a Minnie Mouse party I’ve found so far. School is out and summer is here!  The good news: lots of free days for the kiddos to play.  The bad news: lots of free days for the kiddos to get bored.  Matter of Cents and I want to help you avoid the glazed-over eyes and the “I’m bored” whine with these fun activities for kids from Pinterest.

This checklist of 100 Things To Do this summer should be a good start!

Activities for Kids: 100 Things To Do This Summer

Once you go through those, here’s another 100 Things To Do this summer!

Activities For Kids: 100 More Things To Do This Summer

Try a weekly Family Appreciation Night this summer.  Have it in the backyard as a picnic or along with a camp-out for an extra-special event.

Have the kiddos save Batman and Robin (or any little character!) from a frozen prison by shooting the ice blocks with a water gun.

Water balloon pinatas!  What a fun way to cool off during those hot summer days.  You could add some glitter if you have a sparkly princess at home, or dress the kids in clothes you don’t care about and fill the balloons with colored water and let them spray themselves in a rainbow.

Next week the last transit of Venus – when the Earth, sun, and Venus all align and Venus appears as a black circle moving across the surface of the sun – of what is likely our lifetimes will take place on June 5th.  The next one will happen in 2117 – which, unless there are significant medical advances – most of us probably will not be around for.  Matter of Cents and I thought it would be fun to share this twice-in-a-lifetime (the way the orbit works they happen in pairs 8 years apart; the last one was in 2004) event with you as part of our Pin Me! series.

Here is a photo of what the transit looks like:
