Bubbles starts kindergarten this week!  She has asked every day for a week if it’s time to start yet, which with as often as we’ve had school kick-off events feels like it has.

This layered Tropical Smoothie recipe is delicious and refreshing, a great way to start any morning!

The big morning is actually on Wednesday and I’ve been planning ways to make it even more special.  I want a few fun touches, but I especially want it to start with a breakfast that will keep her full and satisfied until lunch.  Concentrating is hard enough when you’re a kid, a rumbling stomach just makes it harder. When I started blogging full time, I realized that I was going to need to schedule my day a little differently, even though I had been working from home for a few years.  I started getting up early in the morning before everyone else to get some quiet writing done and check a few other tasks off my to-do list.  As I no longer had conference calls to worry about, that left my afternoons and evenings a little more flexible for family time.

Create an easy morning routine with BelVita Bites and V8 Veggie Blends #NewBreakfastRoutine

Part of my morning routine has always been some form of V8.  While I am a coffee drinker I don’t like to run the machine until everyone (including Bubbles, who sleeps in) has gotten up.  A V8 beverage always gave me the morning pick-me-up that I needed, plus was an easy way to add in extra veggies to my diet. I’m really not sure how I would make it through the day without my morning cup of coffee.  Partly because of the caffeine pick-me-up, and partly because it’s just a nice way to start the day with a couple of quiet minutes.

Morning Coffee Moment with Chocolate Caramel Muffins #IDelight

August is National Coffee Month and I thought it only appropriate to celebrate with some tasty muffins that you can indulge in while you drink your coffee.  They even have a little coffee creamer in them for some extra flavor, so it’s kind of like celebrating twice. Continue reading »

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Brummel & Brown.

When I was elementary school-aged and younger, I spent many summer and weekend nights sleeping over at my grandparents’ house. There was just so much to do down there, from fishing to picking berries to baking with my Gram. And as my brothers and cousins were born, they added to the mix, until our sleepovers counted six grandkids all spread out over the floor.

In the mornings, Gram always cooked us breakfast, though breakfast seems like an insignificant word for what she cooked. Everyone had their favorites, and everything was cooked to order: eggs were fried, scrambled, made into omelets, or in my case fried but egg white-only. And of course, there was the homemade toast with real butter.

These days, though, I think a little more about the calories than I did when I was a kid.  And so while I still love the taste of real butter, I’m usually reaching for something else to spread on my toast.  After seeing it while shopping at Target, what I have been reaching for lately is Brummel & Brown spread. I love making casseroles all year long, particularly for their time-saving benefits.  They generally don’t take too many ingredients, and usually they’re ones I already have on hand.  The prep time is minimal for most recipes, and then you just put it in the oven to bake while you go take care of other tasks.

Having a few go-to casserole recipes can help simplify your holidays and keep stress at bay.  Guests drop in unexpectedly?  No problem!  They also are great gifts, too.  Trust me – there isn’t one person on your list that wouldn’t love the gift of a home-cooked meal that they didn’t have to make for themselves.

My Sausage Breakfast Casserole recipe is a mash-up of a number of different ones that I’ve tried with tweaks that make it a family-favorite.  We occasionally eat it for dinner, I make it for weekend brunch, and it gets served in the morning on Christmas while everyone recuperates from opening gifts.
