I love summer, I really do.  Lots of places to go, things to see.  A number of excuses to be outside an enjoy the beautiful weather with friends and family.  Sun-kissed skin, flip-flops, and sundresses.

But I don’t love the way my allergies flare up during the summer.  The past few days I’ve been especially miserable; I’m nearly on a first-name basis with the staff at the drug store as I’ve gone through multiple boxes of tissues.

Before moving here, I knew that Kentucky was known for a number of things.  Horses, the Kentucky Derby, Louisville Slugger baseball bats, and bluegrass, just to name a few.  One thing I did not know that Kentucky – and specifically the Louisville area – is known for is something that the residents here have named the “Ohio Valley Crud”.  It refers to the wonderful sinus and allergy issues that so many people here seem to have due to Louisville’s geographic location. A few years ago, I developed allergies.  Oh, joy, right?  It was so confusing.  After all, I grew up in Maine, playing outside all the time, and we had a dog from the day I was born all the way through my college years.  Never so much as a sniffle or itchy eye.

But when they hit – they hit hard.  Seasonal allergies, with the occasional pet dander allergy thrown in for good measure.  I was a miserable mess of itchy eyes, congestion, the whole package.  As a wife and mom, I can’t simply say “I’m taking a sick day”, though, so what’s a girl to do?  There are a lot of options out there, but I had heard good things about Allegra, so I thought I would head to CVS and check it out.
