This is a partnered post with myself, Champions for Kids and The Motherhood to introduce the Snacks for Students program. All words and opinions are my own.

Over the years I’ve worked with Champions for Kids a few different times.  The concept behind Champions for Kids is really simple: it’s an organization that makes it easy for you to give to kids in your own community.  There are a number of different programs they host throughout the year from food to books to toiletries and more.

Champions for Kids: making it easy to give to kids in your own local communities #SnacksForStudents

The ‘your own community’ part is one of the biggest reasons I’ve enjoyed partnering with Champions for Kids the last few years.  There are, of course, plenty of people that need our help worldwide, but it’s important to not overlook those in our own backyard, either.  And now for the first time, nearly everyone in the country can get involved in providing for their communities. Make-a-Wish has long been a group of which I’ve thought very highly.  Putting a smile on a child’s face is always something wonderful, but when it’s a child with a lift-threatening medical condition that could use the extra pick-me-up, it’s even more amazing.

Vote for Make-a-Wish to win a grant from the LIDS Foundation!

When Bubbles gets just a little older and can better understand the concept, I’d like to go through the process to be a wish-granter and be able to help out financially.  Until then, though, and until I have some fundraising plans in place, there’s an easy way that we can all help Make-a-Wish.  All you need to do is vote! This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of UPS for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

The holidays are all about wishes.  Some of them are tangible, like a specific gift you’re hoping to receive.  And others are more abstract, like peace on Earth and goodwill to men.

Bubbles and Santa at the Mall

The older I get – and especially since having a child – I find that my wishes fall into the latter category more often than not.  I wish to see her eyes light up during the holidays, for her to experience happiness, and for the memories we make to be with her always.  It’s a wish I share for all my family and friends. Growing up we didn’t have a Macy’s near where we lived. If we had, I’m sure that I would have loved taking my letter to Santa and mailing it to him in the big red mailboxes they have each year.

Writing a letter to Santa was a big deal in and of itself. It represented all your seasonal dreams and was one of the few chances you had to communicate with the Big Guy. If there had been the opportunity to follow that up by delivering your letter in such a special way, that would have been the icing on the cake.

I Believe! Merry Christmas! Meeting Santa in 2014.

This #HungerHeroes shop on how to fight hunger has been compensated by #CollectiveBias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone.

At one time or another, you have probably heard the statistics on hungry kids right here in our own backyards.  Sometimes those facts have a tendency to kind of pass by our ears, but not really sink in.  The truth of the matter is that one in five kids in the US are hungry.

Be a Hunger Hero and Fight Hunger! #HungerHeroes

Any time I hear those numbers, it makes me shake my head.  We live in an affluent country, how can that possibly be true?  But there is some significant poverty in the USA and some kids honestly do have to wonder where their next meal comes from. Continue reading »
