Many of us are starting the New Year by tackling organization projects.  For us, our three main organization projects for January are the garage, a storage closet that was turned upside-down by the holidays, and our pantry.  I’m one of those people who actually look forward to labeling, sorting, and putting things in their place so I’m excited to roll up my sleeves and get to work.

50 Organization Tips, Tricks, Hacks, Storage Ideas, Free Printables, DIY Solutions & More

I thought I would put together a list of organization tips, tricks, storage solutions, free printables, DIY home solutions, and more in order to help you cross off all the areas on your lists this year.  I’ve broken them down by area, type, or category so you can quickly find what’s most applicable to you.  I hope they help! I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Arm & Hammer. I received an Arm & Hammer Laundry Detergent product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

There are days that I don’t know how my Mom did all that she did, especially when it comes to laundry.  I remember each day going to toss a few things into the hamper and it would be full.  Not because my Mom hadn’t done the wash, but because with myself, two rough-and-tumble younger brothers, and clothes dirty from working on the farm or in the garden, there just was never an end.

During winter and around the holidays there was always even more.  Wet clothes and socks from being out in the snow, tablecloths and linens with gravy stains from holiday meals, my brothers’ basketball uniforms.  Seriously, she must have felt like the only four walls she saw that time of year were the ones in the laundry room.

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Cascade Platinum Pacs. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

It’s kind of amazing how we get accustom to certain pieces of technology and then take them for granted.  Smartphones are everywhere now yet 20 years ago cell phones in general barely existed (try explaining to your tween that when you were a kid you had to actually go looking for the people you wanted to talk to).  Today if you want coffee you don’t have to brew an entire pot, you can simply pop in a single-serve portion of coffee or tea and have a cup in less than 30 seconds.

Another piece of technology that is fairly common in most households is a dishwasher.  While it may be commonplace it’s definitely not something I take for granted.  At one point when I was growing up our dishwasher broke and my parents never bothered to replace it.  I asked why once and my father responded that they had three of them – myself and my two brothers (ha ha, Dad).  Now that we’ve all moved out, they’ve of course had a new one installed.

You can find part 1 of my spring cleaning checklist here; it contains a checklist of needed supplies, as well as a general cleaning guide and tips.

Below is part 2 of the checklist; it breaks your spring cleaning routine down room by room.

Room by Room: Kitchen

  • Pull appliances away from the wall and clean under and behind each one.
  • Turn the power to the refrigerator/freezer off at the fuse box; purge the fridge and freezer of old, expired, or “will never use” items.  Defrost freezer and vacuum refrigerator coils.
  • Replace stove top drip trays.
  • Clean the microwave, including turntable.
  • Empty the crumbs from the toaster.
  • Reseal grout lines.

Our Pinterest theme this week was spring cleaning & organizing, which was perfect timing not only for the gorgeous weather we’re receiving (it’s supposed to be in the high 80s all this week and next.  In March.  In Kentucky.  I’m thrilled.) but because I’d been planning to start writing a cleaning and organizing series.

Spring Cleaning Supplies Checklist

Throughout the series we’ll also talk specific areas of your home (closets, pantry, that pesky junk drawer), must-have (and completely-love) products, storage, how to stay organized once you’re done, and other themes.  But I thought spring cleaning was a great topic to start with, so we’ll start with a spring cleaning checklist.
