Today is Lewis Carroll Day!
While Lewis Carroll (whose real name is Charles Lutwidge Dogdson) is probably most famous for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and to a lesser extent, Through The Looking-Glass, he also has a couple of great poems. One of them, “Jabberwocky”, I first read in elementary school and I still love it. It’s a perfect poem to read out loud; the nonsense words are fun to say and you get to shout things like Callooh! and Callay!
(A bit of trivia for you: the word chortle was made up by Carroll for use in that poem, and we still use it today to mean a joyful laugh. Kind of neat for us word nerds.)
In honor of Lewis Carroll, here are some images representing his works. I pinned them to one of my Pinterest boards for easy access; feel free to re-pin!
